Interesting... hp machines are notoriously power limited, so it's quite possible that the chip will perform substancially better in a diy pc.

If they charge $400 or less, I would seriously consider it. It would be my first new home-built Intel rig in nearly 20 years. But, if AMD releases a 5700(X) for a lower price, I think I'd rather get that. I'm fine with a slightly lower frame rate if it means the computer is quieter and more energy efficient.

What the heck? 250W PL2 for 8 core? Are you insane Intel?

Where are you getting that from? Isn't on any on the info posted.

However, it's the same as the 10900k, so if true, it is hardly surprising... but everyone likes to be outraged about everything intel these days.

    It's from Intel's own Rocket Lake-S presentation

As said, it's the same as the 10900k, so i don't know why you are acting outraged or surprised.

Well, 10900K has 10 cores, this one is 8 core only

8 alot higher performing cores, still on the same 14nm node.

Fast as 5800x consuming much more power. This is the best intel can do today. 10900k users cant wait to upgrade. I hope its cheaper than ryzen or its doa.

Well my z490unify will be ready for this mofo,

I won't run prime95 or cinebench20 24\7 so I doubt I will ever see that pl2 state active in games.

why would a 10900k buyer want to upgrade in a year's time ?

compared to Comet Lake's 5GHz cpu it's 22% faster in single thread,I expect a good gaming cpu though will prolly run a bit toasty.Pricing will be the deciding factor, this can't be over $400.

It can totally be over 400$ + vat, if is as fast as the AMD cpu that is 400 + taxes.

Power consumption is a big no from me , that said competition is good a little price war between intel and amd would be lovely! No matter what you want to buy !

    Might want to re-think that.
Pretty sure it's a totally new socket, so a new motherboard is required.

So, they will release a 10nm cpu just 6 month after this one?

They will release this cause there won't be 10nm in '21. They know that.

I hope, or better wish, that Intel has something coming against the 5900X

    they don't
all they can do is get back that #1 gaming spot, that's it.
fine by me,but they won't be able to compete on core count with 12-16 skus

    it's gonna be 6/12 or 8/8
if the price is in check then it's fine
but if it's same or higher than 5600x,wouldn't you prefer a used 10900 then ?

I search for used stuff frequently and a used 10900F can go for same price as 5600x,even new ain't that much more expensive.5.2G single turbo with 4.6G all core turbo, not bad.
My play it safe option when (should I say "if" ......) RKL-S flops.
