Intel Rocket Lake (11th Gen Core processors) already EOL and Discontinued in Latest PCN

On other hand it wasn't a huge success, people don't get 1200 socket as the 1700 were already anounced, and the 11th gen was a small update of the 10th to make them on pair with Ryzen, and i don't talk about the price...
It was like the 5th gen: a gen to wait the next one

 

they were worse than 10th gen really.
that said, I'm still perusing used offers for a 11400/11700 that someone would like to dump quickly, seen used 11900 around 215eur already but did not want an i9.

Rocket Lake was such a failure.

 

Anything below 12/13gen with ddr5 isnt upgrade from your 10700k.

 

I got a 11700 because i didn't want to beta test the new E and P core generation. Also glad i didn't get a 10700 as people recommended, because then i wouldn't have had access to NVME Gen4.

I came from a 4770K btw.

 

Hope that their ARC GPU line doesn't end up EOL as fast as 11th gen CPUs.

 

12/13 on ddr4 will still be a big upgrade performance wise, the difference between ddr4 in gear1 and ddr5 in gear2 for gaming isn't even noticeable uless you're using +6000MHz ddr5. And why would I when I have good ddr4 already and ddr4 boards are cheaper.
Best to wait for ~8000mhz ddr to become mainstream, cause it absolutely will in time. You gotta realize 6000 to 4800 is only what 2666 was to 2133, 25% frequency increase. I'm interested in something like ddr4 3600 equivalent on ddr5, that would be 8200mhz. When ddr4 came out 4000mhz sticks were unobtanium and only 7700K could run them, but in a few years time +4000 became mainstream to the point where my 4133 kit wasn't even that much more expensive than 3600 in 2019 when I bought it.

You are missing out. 13th gen is way less power hungry than 11th gen. My 13700kf at 5.6ghz uses 30-50 watts less than 11900kf at 5.3ghz.

 

It had better performance than zen3? I bet 5950x and 5800x3d craps all over 11900k.

 

That is because Ryzen fanboys are usually delusional and deny reality when they see Intel results with proper RAM etc.

 

I just moved to am5 for the same reason i bought am4 not becouse im an ryzen fanboy but for the longevity of the platform itself. The ability to just pop in 7800x3d or 8800x next year is amazing.

If you think about it Raptor Lake is right now in the same situation as Rocket Lake was. A dead end, short lived.

 

And it has the power consumption to back that up. I'd gladly lose a few FPS off the top end to reduce my power consumption by 100W.

Intel fans are just as delusional once you account for the cost of that "proper RAM", and a proper cooler.

I never understood the desire to have "the best ,with asterisks" when:
A. Whatever advantage it has is small enough where the asterisks do not justify themselves. When it comes to a CPU pushed to the upper echelon, it either offers more performance than you display can render, is held back by poorly-optimized software, is idly waiting for other hardware to catch up, down-throttles its performance to "lesser" PCs due to heat, and/or is obnoxiously loud to maintain temperature. Wow, what a great deal!
B. You are just one of thousands with a similar configuration, so, why bother when there's no practical benefit and just simply isn't special? If you actually had the best with no asterisks, and you're maybe one of hundreds (or even dozens) with a similar configuration, that is something special. Though even then - you're only getting 5 minutes of fame and then everyone moves on. Just look at how little people care about world record overclocks.
C. The fact there are asterisks means it just simply isn't the best - even if you don't care about things like value or power consumption, what's the point if it still isn't #1 in every performance test?

All that being said, this is why I've heavily considered a 13400, because there's no meaningful loss in performance compared to a 13600K yet the power draw difference (and therefore noise difference) is huge.

 

Honestly, the xx400 CPUs has been a very good value since 10th gen.

 

7800X3D will be 25% faster than the 5800X3D, according to AMD. Which is underwhelming, given that you can see RPLs with DDR4 4000/DDR5 7200 wreck the 5800X3D by an often much larger margin.
So much for "dead" when it's faster for years than any AMD CPU...

 

Yeah, well i won't be upgrading this for another 6 years. Left those days long past me.

I also don't us a K model, just a 11700. It's all i need for gaming at 60 FPS.

 

Why would anyone want to replace a ddr5 CPU before ddr6 arrives, let alone in a year ? Get a z690 for 200eur, 12700k will drop under 300 soon, get a 6000 c32 hynix kit and OC past 7000 and youre fine for years. Same as people who got an 8700k with fast ddr4 have been fine for a long time up until recently when 6/12 started to show too high usage and they have many options of getting an 8 core with ddr5 now. Longevity means getting something that you wont have to replace.

 

no wonder Intel laid down 20% AL discounts to clear inventory.
in about two weeks the discounts on the 600 series chipsets should migrate downstream, but we all know net based retail is full of sharks. the discounts have already appeared (in US) on the cpus.

again, if you haven't upgraded in five or more years this is a great opportunity and you get to choose DDR4 or DDR5

imho if you have a more recent system, this is a hard pass as Raptor L is a far more serious upgrade than AL and the market is full of the Raptor L parts and 700 series boards (which are within $10 of AL mobos in US)
