Preorders have nothing to do with it. That's just something stores are doing in the hopes of securing lots of sales and on the other hand eager customers do in the hopes of securing one product from the first batch.

The NDA is only fair as it allows all reviewers and other such operators to have an equal chance. Some receive a sample earlier, some later. If there was no NDA, the lucky earlier ones would catch all the attention and traffic. From the manufacturer's pov the impact is bigger when it happens all at once and is not diluted over a span of time.

Nothing forces anyone to preorder before reviews are out. The only ones that absolutely have to accept such a risk are the stores that have ordered batches of stuff to sell.

How come there are no rumors of Nvidia colluding with intel by announcing the 1080ti on the same day? :infinity:

I think it would be common practice to contact the press to relay some information about new upcoming products, strategy and prices.

Doing it to actually try to influence the reviews results is shameful...I'm very salty about the current price on Intel CPUs and about them holding the technology.

I already dropped Nvidia in 2013 and I I'll drop Intel on my next build.

Nothing strange here really. It worked for them for half a decade, until the Core 2 Duo came out, and they got away for peanuts. They drove Nvidia out of the chipset market, VIA and SiS to nothingness and AMD close to bankruptcy. It worked nicely I would say.

So, did the press punished them? Of course not. Until last year when it was becoming obvious that AMD could survive and more than that come back, the press was attacking AMD even without an excuse. At the same time their criticism for Nvidia or Intel mistakes, bugs, whatever, was much more calm. Even in the case of GTX 970 lies, the press was like "Bad Nvidia, but OK, they made a mistake, let's accept their official statement, it's still 4GBs, it's still a great card, move along".

Did the customers punished them? Nope. They where drooling looking at all those benchmarks of Intel processors. And while this is understandable, they where attacking AMD in every way possible. Even when someone was asking for a cheap system to play simple games, if you where suggesting an APU, you where attacked by many for that suggestion. Even if that APU was perfect for the situation and much cheaper compared to a Pentium + a discrete graphics card(always Nvidia of course, because the hatred for AMD was expanding in graphics cards also), you where attacked for that suggestion.
Worst than that, today many hope AMD to do good, only because they hope to support Intel more, by buying cheaper Intel hardware. They demand AMD to be competitive with empty pockets, while they go out and keep buying the more shiny brand. And most of people who will say that these practices are bad, will happily fill Intel's pockets tomorrow and laugh at the "poor person" using "cheap AMD hardware".

So, why shouldn't Intel do it? People love politicians who constantly lie in their faces and they love huge corporations that try to establish a monopoly. They love the "happiness" that a politician is selling them, they also love the "power" that a top brand is selling them.

For all Intel haters - can you please just pack and leave?
If you have issues with Intel, go ahead, change to AMD. Why bash Intel for something which you don't know or for something based on false information?
AMD is no saint company either.

    Really?

A preorder is not a contract that says that you will, no matter what, keep and use your product. Even if someone gets a Ryzen CPU before the first reviews, he can keep the box at it's original condition and after the reviews shows that Ryzen is not as good as expected send it back to the store for a full refund.

all we need now is the announcement of a desktop AM4 single socket version of Naples for desktop, with quad-channel, 16-32 c/t, black jack and luxury whores.

Intel is an ex-convict, ruled guilty in both Europe and the USA. The world simply is such that if someone has once been punished for a particular crime, it's easy to suspect that same someone to do it again. Especially when the punishment was so light that it was only a fraction of the gain from the crime.

Nobody bashing, everyone needs to be informed.
If anyone likes censorship then go to comunist China or any close country of they. :)

    From 2005 story:

"AMD had the Athlon 64 put ahead of everything Intel had available and they were making tons of money off its sales. But then, suddenly, sales went dry and benchmarks began to run better on Intel despite real world deltas being much smaller than synthetics reflected.
Can you guess why? Because Intel paid PC manufacturers out of its own pocket for years to not buy AMD's chips. Although they were faster, manufacturers went with the bribe because the amount they made from that outweighed the amount they get from happy customers buying their powerful computers. And thus, the industry began to stagnate a bit with CPUs not really moving forward as quickly.
They also attacked all existing AMD chips by sabotaging their compiler, making it intentionally run slower on all existing and future AMD chips. Not just temporarily, but permanently; all versions of software created with that version of the compiler will forever run worse on AMD chips, even in 2020 (and yes, some benchmark tools infected with it are still used today!)."

If this is true, Intel is really worried about Ryzen's launch, but more than what we thought.

Even before Core 2 duo times, when the Athlon 64 and the original FX and the legendary Opteron 165 ran circles around Intel's offering, Intel still had the higher market share due to their partnership deals and advertising. They were never worried about AMD taking some market share, as even if they did it wouldn't be enough to actually do some damage to Intel.

But now, Intel doesn't have an exclusive partnership with the big names like they used to. The media outlet has pretty much become 100 times bigger with information being out there from many different sources, but the biggest thing is AMD's AM4 platform is going to be very very cost effective. If IPC performance from Ryzen to the next die increases but price/performance ratio stays the same, AMD is going to take market share.

What I don't understand is why? AMD has some extensions licensed from Intel, as Intel has extensions licensed from AMD. They both can make their money that way at least.

    Well, thing is this:
Ryzen is new. It is 1st iteration. It will get better with each revision.
Intel's Core is old, they pulled almost all rabbits out of the hat. Intel will need something new to start running circles around AMD again.
No new uArch from intel = balance in performance.

Now, what is intel and what is AMD on financial side?
Intel's revenue in 2016 moved from 57 to 59 billion USD. But net income went down from 11.5 to 10.1 billion USD.
AMD's revenue in 2016 moved from 3.8 to 4.2 billion USD. And net loss remained same 0.5 billion USD.

AMD can easily eat 10% of intel's revenue and be in very attractive black numbers. Intel can take this damage.
But what if AMD eats 20% of intel's revenue?

That is what I think they're worried about. Even with K8's performance, Intel's dealings with Dell, HP, Gateway, some of the biggest names at the time gave Intel more marketshare, and any of that taken away from AMD was nothing to worry about.

A lot of people may argue with me, but look at Apple choosing Intel as well. That had a huge boost in revenue for Intel, and many of their first launching Core 2 brands were featured in an Apple product. Now the amount of PC vs Mac at home, PC will obviously win. And heck, it may even win in other markets as well. But Apple had many products in schools, and work places that all had Intel CPU's. Same with Dell and HP though, all Intel CPU's in their business line of computers. All just adding market share to Intel.

They can predict panic based on how much money they invest yearly in things they can't disinvest.
If they project that loss in revenue will reduce net income from $10 billion to $7 billion, they know that this projection will be widely known with financial report for 2017Q2.
Panic creates more panic, maybe even stock bubble collapse. (not that important from financial standpoint.)
But as those numbers show up, trust even blind people have in intel will get hit hard.
And after that they'll think that maybe there is something AMD is good for.

    "Damn Right!!"

I have been holding back from scratching this MASSIVE itch I've had on wanting to build a new computer.

    "

Shtuff is like an addiction once you go extreme you never want to let up and this will give the performance to price point I've been dying to get my hands on!! No more $1,000 CPU's for this guy!!
