Don't really know what your saying there. But I will add socket 1155 unlocked quads are not very expensive at all. I can get a 2500k at MC for $189 bucks newegg around 220ish. They could be selling a lot of cpu' s for a lot more money then they are charging based on no competition at all in high end segment
The 4100 is fun to play with but technically inferior to the i3. The i3 also runs on a current platform that will allow you to drop in a faster CPU when you need it. AM3+ on the other hand is basically a dead platform.
From a performance vs cost standpoint, that combination is actually quite good! I realise it isn't going to compete with an i7+GTX690 etc, but that's a unrealistically unfair comparison. For a budget computer that you can play games on for a few hundred dollars, the upcoming A10-5800K+HD7670 does represent good value.
I really think that the A10-5800K would be a lemon for games even if it's cheap in price. Looking at reviews in games it seems anything over 1280x720 res and low/med settings in current day games then the apu is struggling to do 60 fps.. To me that's what I'd expect out of a budget laptop, not a desktop. At this point in time give me a i3/i5 and GTX 560 (non ti) over the A10-5800K.
sorry my 2500k was $179.99 hardly an outrageous price for an unlocked quad. yeah PD is 10% improvement over BD per AMD.
So 3 out of 4 reasons are subjective and 1 is if He already has AMD motherboard with FX support. Which I guess is ok. But He's clearly talking about a new build. ( and yes 2nd gen i3 cpu's ( 21xx ) are faster than any AMD cpu, in most games ) So I basically see no reason to recommend a slower, more power hungry dead end platform. i3 would not only provide better performance ( at the same price ), but a possibility for upgrade to something like i5 or i7. An APU could be the way to go still. If he's on a really tight budged and doesn't plan on getting a solid discrete gpu. But only in this case.

@ Pill Monster, I can see why you would be disgruntled about intel being too expensive.. I just had a look at prices in NZ and damn they are expensive there. The site you did that screen shot of prices is one of the cheaper nz online shops, but those prices are harsh. I promise I won't bitch again about AU prices being expensive after seeing that..lol
Finally someone understands what we have to put up with.... Prices here are retarded considering our dollar is worth about 81c US, even Aussie prices are way cheaper than ours. It's absurd. Here's a link to that store if you wanna have a good laugh.... http://www.pbtechnz.com/?group=1
For the prices your paying Pill Monster... I'd seriously consider timing and combining holidays with a trip to AU and buying my upgrades. eg: CPU, Mobo, Vid card. At least that way you could have a holiday and get your upgrades for the price of what you pay for upgrades in NZ alone
You think that's bad, you should see the prices by us; and there is no excuse for it. We have here i7-3770K's costing $450, that's a 25% markup over the U.S. prices; AND THE DAMN CHIPS ARE DESIGNED AND MADE HERE!
