Apparently dairy farms in the UK are currently dumping milk into the sewer because nobody is coming to fetch the milk, and it would just get spoiled. That's just sad. Wasting food always makes me angry. If that's how things "work" in the Brexit UK for something as traditional as dairy farms, you can imagine how vulnerable an absolute high tech unit like a chip fabrication plant would be for costly disruptions.

Brexit seems to be a success story. Well done!

Let's not descent into pointless politics, even if the topic makes it hard to do so...

Yeah, wasting good food pisses me off as well. It's just a waste or resources.

Intel takes some of it's cash to get away from China and Taiwan even more. I think that's a good business move, which sadly, will only pay off in the long run.
That they don't choose the UK still surprises me. Honestly, things are a bit turbulent there currently, but I think they will pull through one way or the other (saying it as an EU and mainland Europe citizen).

But what I liked most about this article was this phrase:

I love "these monies". Maybe could have only been improved by the use of a Z at the end. And 100% serious, please hide such nice sentences that make me smile in all the articles. It's only for people really reading your posts @Hilbert Hagedoorn :)

Let me guess, you don't even know what the European parliament does do you? Oh well... Keep doubling down I guess...

Translation: UK didn´t give Intel enough money to build the factory, Intel spins it with brexit...

For the record, i think brexit is a bad move for the UK in the long run, but many companies are using it as an easy excuse to close factories and fire people, among other stuff.

As far as excuses go, it's actually an excellent one. No real business likes uncertainty. Brexit certainly has had truckloads of that. And like Horus-Anhur said, it just keeps creating more of it. I'm sure experts can already predict the next problem directly granted by the Brexit. The UK will eventually sort out the problems, even if Boris Johnson needs to taste some bitter medicine, but who's going to wait for it and the results nobody can foresee right now? Certainly not Intel or anyone else planning major investments right now, not years from now.

Yes, if you read the news article he clearly states they're looking for financial help.
"We're hopeful that we'll get to agreement on a site, as well as support from the EU... before the end of this year."

He says support several times. Obviously didn't get any big enough offers from UK Gov, so is plastering this Brexit excuse in the media to blame the Government.

Source? 1st I've heard of it. There is a HGV driver shortage all over Europe and even USA atm, but haven't heard of any milk dumping.
Most supermarkets here have put in quite a lot of contingency planning and new drivers are being hired. One of the biggest issues was lack of any HGV tests done during lockdown, and the DVLA (our vehicle licensing agency) is being really slow at renewing HGV licenses, as they're all working from home.

I doubt my Finnish sources would be of much use to you, but quick googling produces sources in English as well. Although it does look like some farmers have managed to save their milk after being told to dump it, which is of course a good thing. Perhaps the publicity helps to solve the whole issue without producing further unnecessary work for the farmers.

Yeah, but what's the date.. There was reports of milk dumping due to the tourism industry being decimated from pandemic lockdowns, but I can't see any reports from 2021.

A BBC article from a month ago: https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-stoke-staffordshire-58480823

In that article the farmer was told to dump his milk by the company that was supposed to fetch it, but after spending hours on the phone, he managed to find someone else to get it. So, it was all up to his own resourcefulness.

    1) this was necessary for Intel. this fab was designed to ease pressure on the Israeli fab (both politically and manufacturing wise)
for those who are unaware the E.U. is a borderless trading area. Brexit created a border the fab was designed to avoid. that means tariffs/duties/etc..

    2) France is absolutely out of the question, but is left in for political purpose. Intel will never tolerate common French labor stoppages and customs. one French farmer's hay truck has been proven to stop the French economy in its tracks.

    3) imho, Poland would be the best choice given that Intel would be the prize acquisition in its economy and they would build to suit.
Belgium stays as a real possibility because of infrastructure and politics. how better to know what the E.U. politicos are up to than to be in Belgium. Holland has the infrastructure but doesn't have the land (remember the rising seas) except near the German or Danish borders.

Yep!....exact same problem here in the US.

    Demand Increase Due to COVID-19

"While there was a capacity demand shortage during the first few months of the COVID-19 pandemic, demand has dramatically increased in 2021. Industries are recovering, products are being shipped and truckers are working hard to keep up with the restored and increased demand."

    Build in southern Europe.
UK needs to sort their crap out, Eastern Europe as well.

Intel should try and pick a country without ultra national populist leaders if possible.
Unless of course they prefer to line the pockets and grease the wheels of that kind of thing.
