For the low number of PCI-E lanes these processors provide, the asking price is way too high.

3 years ago, I would take i5-9600K at that price as then and in reasonable future it would be great gaming CPU.
No reason to jump a gun now. It is bad considering price and software evolution.
Maybe Zen2 will be good enough for you. It is likely to be competitively priced and improvements... well, we should wait a bit and see.

But at 1440p or higher, especially with G-Sync, the 2700x to 8700x/9xxx gap does narrow substantially. The 9900K is $529 at Amazon in the US (OOS), the 9700k is $399. You can buy the 2700X for $280, plus get $30 off when you also buy a MB at Microcenter in the US. The 8700k is 300-330 at Microcenter and they also receive the $30 discount. $529 is a little steep, in my opinion. For pure gaming, with no budget constraints, the 9700K makes sense, but it's still overpriced.
What if AMD took the 2700x, removed the extra threads and cranked up the clocks and sold it for $300 retail?

I wouldn't mind a beefy 5.25GHz overclock (would make wonders for my 144hz monitor) add a GTX 2060 and I'll be golden.

However it might be wise to wait for the actual benchmarks, but if the price don't drop (-100€) I will keep my 7600K until it pops.

It's a HEDT chip, pure and simple. Intel does not offer a mainstream 8c/16t processor - these chips are for the ultra-rich enthusiasts who don't care about getting good value for their money (they just want to show everyone how big their e-peen is).

It is indeed terrible value, but we all knew that. To be frank, I've always found it comical how much focus there is on 720p / 1080p gaming among the PC crowd (even console gamers are moving up to 4K now - and we're here talking about 1080p gaming?). Buying high-end gear, only to play at low resolution and detail never made sense to me.

Bold: Removing threads => 2600X, and it actually boosts to maximum clock on all its cores (beating 2700X in some situations). This what if is more suitable for Zen2 and there will again be 8C/16T CPU and it will again boost to quite similar clock to 6C/12T of that generation.

But I agree that 8700K is way more attractive. Thing about 1440p and higher gaming, it is not usual gaming scenario. Similarly as gaming on screen having more than 60fps is still not common enough. (sadly)

Product is solid if large scale of people have use for it and therefore buy it. Casual 1080p gamer without 144Hz+ screen should get 2600(X) as it is cost efficient. Those over-expensive chips are for people willing to spend extra for certain purpose. That means spending extra on other components too.

Example of bad investment is super fast CPU for playing counter-strike at 300fps for purpose of reducing input lag, but having only 60Hz screen. 4ms difference in input lag means nothing. Saving on CPU and getting 120Hz+ screen means twice as much information allowing one to react much sooner.

This. Nobody sits at home before buying PC hardware and tries to guess how much fps they get on their screen, people are more often buying a 500$ CPU and a 800$ GPU to play CSGO with minimal details than anybody buying themselves a rig that aims for 144fps with a 144Hz screen....

I'm @ 1440p on a 165hz g-sync. Battlefield, Fortnite, VR racing games, and I do some recording. I think I made a good choice with the 2700X, especially since I bought it and an open-box Crosshair VII for $445 plus tax. :)

another guru3d user basically saying "i do not play why do other people play, play is no good, work is good"
you realize there are more players than people needing to edit photos or videos right ?
you want a edit : Dodge RAM (giant car with tons of torque) to transport garden tools in the back I want a Ferrari to go fast maybe that is a better more understandable comparison between the two CPUs for you ?

as explained in another topic games do not care about cores or threads, that's a lie, they always only cared about clock speeds, this is 5Ghz (on 2 cores) stock so this is the better gaming CPU no contest
Forza games on PC only use ONE core >< as programmed by the developers ! so your 64 threads ? we really don't care about
    quote :
Some users may notice that the game utilizes nearly 100% of one of their processor cores. This is expected behavior; we intentionally run in this manner so we can react as fast as possible in order to minimize input latency. Users on power-constrained devices, such as laptops and tablets, might want to use a Performance Target of “30 FPS (V-SYNC),” which will reduce processor usage and minimize power consumption.

    edit :
    on pre-order for 629CHF here
    552.4€ or 632.55USD

Fools, buy single core and overclock it to 6GHz. We back to good old clock wars! P4 vs Athlon!

    Very simple :
    9900k = 2700x + MB + RAM 16Gb

The 9000 series are over priced, and the benchmarks are questionable...
Still ïdïötś around the world pre order before independent reviews are out, because the NDA is still on...

Same with the RTX series, and they are no where near 50% faster than 1080Ti.
Still under NDA there were a bunch of ïdïötś that die pre order. The 2070 and 2080 are to weak for RT, still plenty of people will try... That is dumb

This is for tech fans, looks good for AMD

yes apparently we are it's not something we want it's how it is ><
we tought Forza case was a MSstore problem but apparently it's not and Forza Horizon 4 released recently is the same >< mono/duo-core gaming in 2018 is sad but true
the only thing that could change that are the consoles as usual in gaming
and now we can't go back to old hardware to OC a single core :p where would we put our 3500Mb/s Samsung 970 M.2 SSDs :p

no you don't get a 2700x+mb+ram for that price not unless you buy "worst possible everything" and a 2700x which would be dumb

I do not pre-order anything I don't buy anything without seeing benchmarks to be clear and I also have the specific problem of running out of lanes because of 10Gbit networking so I may...may have to buy an AMD in the end but not one with 4.3Ghz I already have that and a 40lanes cpu it wouldn't be a good enough upgrade

It's going to be a great match for your GeForce 410M! There will be no bottlenecking one way or another. A perfect balance.

Maybe he's not going to game on it. I would be more worried about the board. I was with MSI over 15 years.
But that trash they had as high end for AM4 with X470 chipset... Worst BIOS ever. Poor Board design. And it died in 2 months.

I simply could not believe my eyes. There was time when paying MSI extra for board meant something.
