Right after IDF a lot of chatter has hit the web. As planned Intel is going to release Kaby lake architectre based processors in the coming months. Kaby Lake is the 3rd generation processors that In...

Still 4/4 for i5 and 4/8 for i7. I really hope Zen will be competitive and Intel stop selling us overpriced quad-cores.

weird, I heard rumor Intel gonna start making true 6 cores for i5 chips.

Coffee Lake or Cannonlake. As you can see Kaby Lake is another quad-core which sucks.

They're nothing but Skylake's equivalent to Haswell's 'Devils canyon' refresh, as someone who got burned with Intel's lies about upgrade paths for Z97 owners, you'd do well to stay away from these if building a system from new.

As pitiful as ever. Unless you want an overprised Optane SSD, assuming you could somehow snatch one from the corporate channels, this is utterly worthless. Overclock a Skylake and you've got a Kaby lake.

I really want Zen to succeed. Intel sucks more (money) than an industrial vacuum cleaner with a 5kW motor.

Yawn... I'm starting to loose track of these releases. I too hope AMD will succeed, just to spice things up after Intel domination for like over 5 years. Though I plan to stay on my X99 system for at least another 2 years, I am looking forward to finally see significant performance bumps again.

The funny thing would be when Intel will ask for new socket with 8xxx series. Undoubtedly, my 4690 stay as is. Focus on GPU -I hope the rumor Nvidia will build the new GPUs with Samsung and 14nm.

I'm not an overclocker, having just bought a 1151 socket and 6600 I'm interested in these for an upgrade later in. Just stinks they seem to keep rehashing technology, but then again, when you have basically zero competition, you're not needing to break boundaries.

add 100 mhz, remove some cache, change socket - job done > sold millions

meh its like upgrading from a gtx980 to 1080 for a 5% performance jump -or less with a different pci-e slot

What are you talking about, 5% gain.
Even the 980 vs 980TI is more then 5%.

Kaby Lake and it's successor Coffee Lake are refined versions if Skylake. They weren't part of the original planning, with Kaby Lake added a while ago and Coffee Lake recently. The only reason why they exist is because Canonlake hasn't been working out for them. Delayed, then only low power versions for the future planned release, with Coffee Lake being the performance orientated platforms. The only sugar in the coffee is a 6 core version to help compete with 8 core Zen.

That last sentence would have been true if they needed to compete with Zen. Since zen most likely will not be able to take on even the haswell i7-4790k, I don't see how they need to compete with something which isn't even out yet and even then, won't beat what they currently have.

Wanna bet that the average OC frequency will be at the 4.5-4.7GHz ballpark, once again? This feels like a GPU update with a bit more optimistic frequencies for the cherry picked top parts like the 7700k. And still quad core. I hope Zen has unlocked multipliers by default, just to stop this "k" nonsense from Intel.

for people that asking more cores on mainstream line
    despite more cores dx12 related
but what about cpu is performance...
and thats why amd that have more cores even lower prices cant win consumer mind
most will just go with one that offer better performance (other than bigger marketing/promotion wave from intel)

if intel selling 10cores but same performance like 4cores, then where the value ?
will people buy the cpu just because more cores? i dont think so

but in addition no extra cores in next mainstream cpu
the performance improvement seems marginal either... almost like rebranded gpu-chip
