OK, not sure I understand the PCI Express configurations, are they saying that the 5820K will support X16 with 1 card installed and only X8 X8 when running CF or SLI? That can't be right surely for the top end chipset can it?

It's basically top card will get 16x an next card 8x an 3rd card 4x

remember it's not the chipset, but actual chip which has the lanes....5820k will be bottom end chip

For an 8 core those stock-speeds are pretty low i gues.

The more cores you add, the more you decrease the clock speeds because of thermal constraints, if i´m not mistaken.

Anyway i´m interested and curious about the entry CPU, the 5820K. If it costs the same as the 4820K, then i could buy a very decent gaming machine with the a six core CPU instead of going with an 4790K.

These cards are expected in September, right? For the PCI-E specifications, does the 5820k only do 16x-8x-3x in PCI-E 3.0? 8x being 16x in PCI-E 2.0?

If so then that would be nice because current graphic cards haven't maxed out the PCI-E 2.0 specification "not till Nvidia's Pascal" which would be the 900 series with a rated bandwidth of up to 1gbs but I guess that wouldn't matter anyways because we would need new motherboards that would support NVLink to fully use it!

That won't be the case till Skylake CPU's and the 200 series motherboards arive?

My guess is the 5820k with have a $150 premium, so more like $450.00 for entry, $650.00 for the 5930k and $850.00 for the 5960x and $1000.00 for a 5970x variant?

Oh rite, shame you don't get a few more lanes on this chip, X16 X8 X8 would have been nice, seeing X4 on Haswell E and X99 just seems underwhelming since its Top End and will be for a few years. It probably will be Skylake E that gets the next big chipset and that won't be around for a good while yet.

We'll have yet to see turbo speeds. 3GHz base for 8-core Extreme may look kinda disappointing. However if they offer good boost speeds, like in case of laptops, it may look completely different.

Also, it may be much better to get "good old" 4770k / 4790k for a gaming rig, as they should offer great clock speeds at lower power usage and less money, which should be more than enough for games and general computer usage. Also, the motherboards are cheaper for such CPUs. However for workstations, usually more cores = better.

    I would expect the prices to be 5820k ($450), 5930k ($650), 5960x ($850)), 5970x ($1000)

Wow, what a joke. Premium platform and Intel makes the 5820K a trashcan.

If those are the prices then Intel can keep them...

The entry level of Ivybridge E (I forget the model) was cheaper than the 3770K.

I don't see the problem. If your work requires more cores go with E, if not don't. It's that simple.

Exactly. I do audio work, hence 6 cores.

Well with a possible $50 overcharge on first shipments and then in a few month's time the entry chip might drop to $400 but knowing intel things will stay inflated!

I got my core 4930k for $430 at best buy so who knows?

It's new platform an new memory DDR4, so it's going to cost regardless.

    More likely, 1000$ ( maybe even 1200$ ) for the 5960X - 800$ for the 5930K and in the 550$ range for 5820K..

3960x and 4960x was in the 1000$ range at release. and we seeing a 8 cores / 16t here on top followed by 6 cores cpu ... Price will be high for sure.

The 4820K was cheap, but it was the only quadcore in a 6cores cpu family.

it will be like the actual entry level of E
1x16 + 1x8 or 2x8 depending on your config... on paper it's a huge difference... but on usage it's nearly none :3eyes:.
well... it's the E serie don't expect cheap  (and more expensive on Xeon W and X).
