W12 already? Surely W10 is the last windows you'll ever install! I'm still thinking about going to 11 from 10 and some of my PCs are happy with 7s. I feel like updates are pointless. Worse UI, more bloat, more built in spyware. No thanks!

Unless compatibility is an issue as it is with one of my HTPCs and another spare machine, i cant understand why anybody would stay on W10.

    Since people think that:

    95 - Bad
    98 - Good
    2000 - Bad
    XP - Good
    Vista - Bad
    7 - Good
    8 - Bad
    10 - Good
    11 - Bad

then MS knows that they'll think:

    12 - Good

It will arrive late 2024. Microsoft intended to get back to the 3 years development cycle again. Still, we got time before we get there.
Windows 11 is not that bad as you suggest. They improved it since first released.

I also note that AMD is the first to implement AI engine within CPU (in the x86 world i mean), beating Intel to the run for Windows 12 "compatibility". There's no doubt that Intel is working to integrate an "AI tile" to their first chiplet CPU for that "compatibility" being worked on.
But i doubt there is anything really mandatory on that side, Windows 11 supported hardware should easily be compatible with the next OS.

I'm feeling no need to switch to Win11, so maybe it would be all the same to update straight to Win12. Assuming some kind of AI acceleration chip in the CPU is not mandatory.

I've actually liked using W11 with WSL sure it might have had some issues in the beginning. But anyway interesting to see how 12 turns out. Will ugrade most likely anyways.

What do you mean by "2000 - Bad"?

PS And before 2000 there were NT 3 and 4.

Windows 98 good? Seriously, this was, by far, the worst OS I have ever used. A buggy, unfinished, constantly crashing, price of crap.
I can't talk about Win95, as I didn't use it. But I remember a friend who upgraded from 95 to 98, and he was constantly saying it was a mistake.

Windows 2000 bad? At the time, it was one of the most stable OSes MS ever released. It was a bit heavier than the 9X kernel OS, but a very good OS.

And XP wasn't a good OS. It took until SP2 to become the great OS we still remember.

Nonsense. 95 OSR 2 was a magnificent OS, 98 was utter garbage, 98SE was the one that was ok, and 2000 was an absolute game changer, it was their best OS up until XP SP2. Also, you have ME missing, which was likely the worst garbage they have ever released, probably worse than VIsta - which actually improved quite a lot with its last Service Pack.

In short, Windows is a land of contrasts.

For me Windows ME was the best of the 9X kernel OS.
Compared to 98 and 98Se, it was a good OS. Much more stable than any of these. And it introduced a lot of new features.
It's only downside was the lack of DOS support.

Ai is all well and good but I do worry the AI is going to be the equivalent of a meth addict. At least for the beta/early revision if the project code is called skynet I'm going to find a rock to hide under

If you ignore what people on the net drivel together, you will always have a cutting-edge stable operating system after a bit of getting used to and enjoying learning new things. Everyone else is just wasting their time and with every generation the same old story, including this one, comes back. but shhh

Considering the uptime reliability issues still in 10, you might have 10 and 11 backwards for home theatre / lounge gaming setups.

I never seen any bloatware on Windows 10, but then again i download and use Workstation Pro and Enterprise editions. But i have no plans to install windows 11 anytime soon, maybe like 10 years from now sure.
