I'm confused - this sounds like the most significant update in Intel's architecture in the past 5 years, yet this is still another Lake product? I know Intel has mostly abandoned the tick-tock strategy but this sounds more like a tock (relatively speaking).

8c/16t is great spot for gaming only if intel deliver a good ipc increase. Amd will not hold gaming crown for long.

    Why so?
There are xeons if you need more too, and there will be with this arch too.

But Lake is just a name, do people care?
Their main name is the gen number, and the gen number increase by one regardless of the real changes

Gonna ignore this generation and possibly upgrade when Alder Lake comes out. That chipset will support DDR5 and PCI-E 5.0. There’s literally no point in buying Rocket Lake

    • Better gen-over-gen performance.

I wonder the double digit ( that means anything from 10 to 99 ) from what generation are they counted.
And also clocks, strange they do not speak about 5.x speeds, meaning that the new architecture could have lower clock speeds?

In a marketing standpoint, using another Lake isn't a good thing because it doesn't suggest there was much generational progress. Frankly, it's getting rather difficult to remember which lake is better than others (most of the products we hear about are just desktop parts, but there are more lakes than that), and confusion in a marketing perspective is never a good thing when people could inadvertently buy something worse.

Their main name is even worse - too many numbers, making it a mouthful to say. But yes, at least that makes it easier to know which product is newest.

PCI-E 4.0 only for discrate cards and Optane? So no NVME 1.4 support? xD

Don't count your dinosaurs before they're hatched. Intel was already supposed to be running PCIe 4.0 with the 10th gen CPUs, but they failed to make it work. So, you should be careful with your expectations regarding the next version after that. I reckon they will get DDR5 working no problem, but the PCIe version is just a maybe.
