I'm siding with Vase here, even though it seems a lot of you here disagree with him.

Anyone who has experience in designing PCB's with medium to high power should come to the conclusion that the risk here is extremely low. Going from 6.25A to 7.1A through the PCI-E slot is not going to cause any issues. It's such a small amount of current increase. Motherboards that fail at 7.1A, were going to eventually fail at 6.25A if the design margins were that thin anyway.

Its just the usual internet chest-thumping by basement dwelling neck-beards.

Its not a problem really, AMD doesn't think its a problem, and the PCIe certification board pretty much shrugged it off.

But the usual suspects all take offence to things that dont fit into their tiny little concept of what they can find on the internet on white paper and the like.

As long as they can find some "official source" to back up their righteous anger, they can point at it feel save and cozy in their word.

The way I see it is that AMD acknowledged the issue and are releasing a fix. While AMD fans are pretending there's no issue.

Nobody, and i mean nobody has ever denied the issue - overspec.

What people are denying it thats is an actual problem.

I am in that crowd (i have a BSEE although i am currently in the financial sector), and AMD has made it clear they dont think its a problem either.

because people are making a stink.

its a PR problem, better to just make everyone happy and hopefully they will go away.

They will probably all just find something else to bitch about.

You best shut up people by telling them there's nothing wrong with your product and there's nothing to worry about.

AMD coming out and saying they're releasing a fix will just fuel this agenda.

    they said that.

Ive quoted it several times; here it is again.

"Its fine, bugger off" is not good business. Its never a good idea to condescend to your customers (i have an MBA as well, hense the financial sector)

If anything, it shows they are willing to listen to their potential customers and adapt quickly whether they agree or not.

Although if past experience is any indicator, im sure it will fall on deaf ears.

It's an interesting situation. Sometimes it's good to be tight-lipped (is what NV usually does), sometimes it just fuels the problem.

What AMD did is they went half-way

One: they are releasing the fix, because they know full well that being out of spec is problematic on several levels

Two: but they are listening forums and they know that their deathly-loyal fans are somewhat successful in propagating this theory of MOVE ALONG PEOPLE, NOTHING TO SEE HERE,
which gives AMD enough brazenness to be vague about the issue and not own it fully

the reality is there ISNT anything to see here.

    its much ado about nothing.

If you arent willing to believe the official statement by AMD and cry "PR mouthpiece", there isnt much anyone can do to convince you otherwise.

Its a convenient way to cling to your beliefs.

If I understand some of the posts here, I should switch to Nvidia because they never have issues or have to release new drivers to fix problems.

After two years using Nvidia cards I'd really completely forgotten about the "fan" wars that go on between Nvidia/AMD users, really wish it wasn't a thing anymore, I don't understand why people are bickering about graphics cards, or "point scoring" about possible issues with said graphics card etc. etc. It was bad enough all the crap with the Xbone/PS4 (I went with team PS4 btw!)

It's actually people like you making it an AMD vs Nvidia thing. Really it's not. It's ONE out-of-spec product that just so happens to be AMD. It doesn't matter who's made it. I've been just as vocal with major Nvidia issues. However, this issue is unique to this one AMD product (hopefully not across the whole range either).

Had this been a new company releasing such a product, you would've taken a different stance for sure. The bias for defending such a product is on you.

I went with both the team xbone and ps4 ;) and wii u. And would buy nvidia if one would be good enough. Which means next big cards in the range of titan or ti vs whatever amd brings out if amd brings out.
