Im often shifting between DLSS, DLAA & TAA no one has the upper hand overall.

 

Odd, on my system DLAA has the most anti-aliased and thus best looking power lines by far. That's in 4k, though.

Chrome and Edge also can upscale videos in the browsers (Waiting on firefox)
For me VLC does a better job but I'm hoping some better plugins come for Firefox that don't hit the GPU for 90-99%

Nvidia has debuted a look at path tracing technology, and the results look stunning.

Just below, you can see the beginnings of a tweet thread taking Twitter user inside Nvidia's brand new path tracing technology for real-time results. There's nearly ten examples of path tracing in action throughout the Twitter thread, which sure manage to make Nvidia's new technology look absolutely spellbinding.

If you're unfamiliar with what path tracing actually is, don't worry, you're far from alone. On Nvidia's official website (opens in new tab), the new technology is called "the most accurate way of rendering,"
and one of the "largest breakthroughs for real-time graphics in many years," by using billions of triangle and millions of light emitters to render a scene in real time.

In short, path tracing is a big step up from ray tracing technology now used with PC and console games. We still think of ray tracing as being the pinnacle of graphical output right now across games, but what Nvidia is basically seeking to do with path tracing is turn everything up to 11.

As for when we could actually expect to see real-time path tracing out in the wild, it's anyone's guess. Nvidia is only just introducing the technology to the world for the very first time, so it's not as if developers are realistically going to have this functioning in games within the next few years.

NVIDIA Brings DLSS 3 to Diablo IV Server Slam, More Games Get DLSS 2

Last week, Redfall launched with support for NVIDIA DLSS 3 and NVIDIA Reflex, and this week Diablo IV's DLSS 3-enhanced Server Slam Beta begins!

Additionally, Fobia - St. Dinfna Hotel, No One Survived, and Someday You'll Return: Director's Cut are adding support for DLSS 2 via game updates, giving GeForce RTX gamers the fastest frame rates possible.

 

Frame Generation in a title where people in past games literally make split second decisions based on percise timing of animations... That's going to be interesting and a potential good test of the tech.

 

AMD Capsaicin Graphics Framework Out Now, Includes GI-1.0 Real-Time Solution

Today, the GPUOpen website was updated with the new AMD Capsaicin graphics rendering research framework based on Microsoft's DirectX12 API.

AMD Capsaicin (not to be confused with the GPUs released around seven years ago) is a graphics rendering framework designed to encourage fast prototyping of new features.
Its core principle includes creating simpler abstractions of common rendering operations so that game developers may focus on writing algorithms instead of having to deal with complex API specifics.

The framework is based on a modular design to better support multiple concurrent developers and research implementations.
AMD Capsaicin's 1.0 release includes several HLSL functions for material sampling, light sampling, spherical harmonics, and more. There are also several common rendering techniques like TAA, SSGI, Tone Mapping, and Ambient Occlusion, among others.

The most interesting feature by far currently available in the AMD Capsaicin framework is the GI-1.0 real-time global illumination solution,
based on the paper A Fast Scalable Two-Level Radiance Caching Scheme for Real-Time Global Illumination (Guillaume Boissé, Sylvain Meunier, Heloise de Dinechin, Matthew Oliver, Pieterjan Bartels, Alexander Veselov, Kenta Eto, Takahiro Harada).

The main goal of GI-1.0 is to use additional lighting structures to reduce the sample rates for ray tracing and thus improve performance.
The two-level scheme caches the radiance and uses it for sampling. AMD Senior Graphics Programmer Guillaume Boisse explained in this GDC 2023 presentation:

Screen probes are our first level of caching. They position directly onto the primary surfaces and only onto the primary surfaces.
They cache the incoming radiance across the hemisphere, and they're high fidelity simply by virtue of the fact that we have many probes.

Then the hash cells, they're the second level of caching. They're positioned anywhere in the world. They cache the reflected radiance for a given direction.
They're far less detailed than the screen probes, but they're stable and persistent, so it's a nice complement.

The paper also includes performance figures for GI-1.0. The rendering time cost in AMD's tests ranges from 1.932ms to 3.124ms on an AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT GPU.

GI-1.0 was also implemented as an Unreal Engine 5 plugin so the engineers could compare it with UE5's Lumen renderer.
That said, the UE5 integration is still incomplete due to the engineering effort to accurately evaluate UE5's material system.

The AMD Capsaicin graphics rendering framework lets users switch between renderers.
In this version, a reference Path Tracer renderer is available in addition to GI-1.0.

 

Is traversal stuttering a feature ?

 

Just checked XeSS DP4a in Witcher 3, looks pretty shitty vs. FSR 2 without RT and comparable mip bias...
Super blurry, smeary and even temporally less stable...

How can voices who tell it would be superior to FSR 2 be taken seriously? Just ridiculous.

 

I think if you are using an Intel GPU the difference between is noticeable in favor of XeSS based on some youtube videos. Currently waiting for review site comparisons.

 

When I had an Arc A770, XeSS 1.0 with matrix core path looked terrible too in all games tested. Picture was a bit cleaner and more stable than on non-Intel hardware, but ghosting/trailing often was just disastrous regardless.

But to be clear about it: Yes, I don't think FSR 2 looks good in Witcher 3 with RT enabled. But I personally don't care about that, I wouldn't turn on RT on at least every non-OLED device due to annoying black crush with RT on LCD (even though I use bright gamma for dark shades).

When it comes to games, there are several new titles that have been updated for DLSS, such as The Outlast Trials or Bus Simulator 21, both are now compatible with DLSS2.
The support for DLSS3 has expanded to include a post-apocalyptic MMORPG called Ashfall. This game is not yet released, so gamers cannot test the technology out, however DLSS3 support should be live with the beta that launches in July.
