....... card from the 40** series to be released, what do you think it would be? **From their current selection, no hybrid or Frankenstein creations, a card that is currently on sale** Top end so 4090 and go for profitability? Something more mid range so 4060Ti/70/70Ti and go for a balance? Or all in on a 1080p lower end card like 4050Ti/4060 and hope for volume sales.
Probably a xx60 die with a xx90 price Most likely, like @cucaulay malkin said, the 102 die for gaming and working purposes.
and sales margins, they make 1000usd on each one. 4090ti 24G full ad102, 18000 cuda cores 4090 20G 4080Ti 16G 4080 12G 4070Ti 11G 4070 10G - around 10500 cuda you can make a lot of ad102 bins
He is on my ignore list. So what model card then? I don't do the die number thing, I'm not that kind of enthusiast to be honest.
If competition from AMD has no restriction it would have to be a (hybrid perhaps) version of the 4090 to remain on top. It would need a large amount of memory too.
No, that they would only make the 102 chip which is used in everything from the 4090 downwards. The biggest chip of the generation, and either due to yields or laser cutting off cores, they'd "downscale" until the lowest end card would be the 4070. I think that they would focus on a "mid range performing" card is reasonable, since they'd have a bigger profit margin on it, easier getting the chips from the fabs, and more sales compared to only offering e.g. 4090s. Stricktly thinking from an economic standpoint though. I'm not in the market for that class of card tbh.
and easier to sell ad102 for gamer/pro lines simultaneously. if no altered versions are allowed in this thread, what is it for ? of course they'd sell one that profits them the most. they have to sell 3 or 4 4070s to earn what a single 4090 does. without 4080 or 4070ti, 4090 sales would be a lot higher too.
Yep, they wouldnt have a choice if they want to keep their backers happy. But its an extreme circumstance that doesnt cater for the midrange gamer at all, where most money is made, but will it be from your products when you dont have the performance crown?! Its not a realistic situ. They might have to reduce the number of SKUs but it would never be anywhere near 1, as long as price/performance matters throughout the spectrum.
Yeah but what we see in business and even successful ones is that they may lose track of what made them successful, the aim. A single, unambiguous aim is the keystone of successful business operations. Every decision made irrespective of department or level, must have a positive effect on the aim, in my job it literally dictates everything. Diversity is good, it spreads risk, but not at the expense of the core business. Imagine if NV offered just a 4050 (1080p) with 8gb, at 4070 (1440p) with 16gb and a 4090 (4k) with 24gb, then let the partners add whatever cooling solution they wanted. DLSS and such tech takes up the slack of bridging the gaps between cards.
