Hmm.. not sure I can help you with that problem. :3eyes: Perhaps you should ask one of the experts at tigerdirect. :wanker:
The only thing realy bad I ever had happen was a bout 3 years ago, my wife was out shopping and I had been staying I wanted/needed a new PC. So she called me and said hey BestBuy has some kind of sale going on, do you think they might have what you want. So i get here to read me off all the specs on what they have, and finaly I see what I think is a deal, its a ACER AMD 64 X2 4400+ 1gig of ram, vista HP, 300gig HD and the other junk, so I get her to find some guy to open it to see if it does have PCI-E slot, god so many ppl end up with a PC like this with no upgradable video, or AGP/PIC junk. So all is good, snaged a 7950GT video card and 1 more gig of ram, all for about $800.00.(at this time is was not a bad deal) So she gets it home, I start pulling it apart and notice there are 2 PSUs in the box, and I as my wife why? she tells me that they told her the one that came with it was not strong enough for the card I got, I was like yea ok, wich I new that already, I had a PSU for it at home I was going to use. But any way I was like ok, did not cost me nothing, but I see they have stuck a 20pin PSU into a 24pin MOBO, I was like WOW they were dumb, so I called them up told them the problem they said no worries bring it back, and we will refund the PSU, but no the install fee, of $24.99, I was like you charged her $24.99 for 2 min of work? then let it go. So I drive 50miles back to the store, wich they gave me a $50.00 gift card for my troubles wich was nice, and they tell me it will be a few min, they will remove the old psu and give me the money back. I was hungry so went to eat stayed gone about 1 hour, came back, and they had not touched it, so I left went shoping came back and the PC was still setting there untouched. Finaly I got some one from the back to help me, and told them what I needed to be done, so he did it, then tried to charge me $24.99 for removing it, wich cause me to yell and tell him off, so then the manager comes up , we talk the removed the PSU gives me my $50.00 gift card, and the PC back and I leave. Ok this is were I get realy mad, I get home, pop in my old PSU, boot up every thing looks good, DL the new NV dirvers for my card, it tells me to reboot , so I do. When the PC comes back up, the NV drivers are gone, all the dates/times are reset to w/e they were. So I play around with and and find that it has some kind of instore softwear on it that basicly resets the PC on reboot to fix any thing some one might do playing with it in the store. I called BB and they tell me "OH we forgot to remove that" you have to bring it back so we can do a system restore, god!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So I drove another 50miles , get there tell them why Im aback and they say oh ok, come back in about 3 days and we will have it ready, I told them off, and to just give me aback the money and I would order some thing online, wich brought out the manager again, in the end they spent 8 hours that day getting that PC back to normal, and gave me another $50.00 gift card. After this I will never, ever ,ever buy any thing from Best Buy. sorry for the ranting, typing this kinda refreshed how mad I was that day.
lol, thats terrible ogre. 200 miles, untold hours, gettin pissed all for 100 in gift cards. i was waiting for someone to bring up the geniuses of incompetence that work at the geek squad and fire dog at best buy and circuit city. a family member of mine went to upgrade their dell with some more ram. they only needed 1gig, 10 minute fix right? not with geek squad. days and hundreds of dollars later she finally got their computer back. upon hearing this from her i told her about how easy a ram upgrade was and she got pissed. they charged her double for the cost of the ram plus some un-godly amount of hours for labor. i would hate to be on the other end of that call.
^i will never buy a store bought PC, ever. unless its a laptop. i will always build my own PC unless i need it urgently. the average employees in computer stores are horrible. and the ones that know what they are doing, try to get as much money from you as possible... ohhh, thats why my 9600's are working! does anyone want to trade for a crossfire motherboard? <i cannot stop lol'ing about that.
Haha the people that work at Tiger Direct are no more intelligent than Geek Squad over at Best Buy. I have been in that Tiger Direct multiple times to buy thermal compound, and thermal compound only. Why anyone would go in there to buy components (unless it's Black Friday) is beyond me. The prices are through the roof and the hardware is out dated. The only cool thing is you can look at hardware you normally see online in person (i.e. displays are the most useful to look at in person)
Now I have never professed to be a very knowledgeable Guru but I was once in PCWorld and I was after a SATA cable. The biatch that served me didn't know what the **** a SATA cable was! :3eyes:
2,459,000! I've lost track of the time that I've asked about some product and I get responses like; "I've never heard of that! Most recently, I went into a small store to ask if he had any i7 platforms and it was; huh! :knock: The idiot had never heard of it. That's one reason I hardly ever eat out...because they hire people who had never even heard of the word 'hygiene" I'll spare you the details of that one.
At BB the employee didn't even know to keep his mouth shut When I went to BB to check-out a reasonably inexpensive gaming computer for my son, I mentioned that I wasn't going to buy him a $5000 gaming computer . The middle-aged managerial-type delighted in telling me that, "There's no such thing as a $5000 gaming computer." Even if I was totally wrong, just plain common sense would dictate that he should have just smiled and nodded and continued to assist me with a sale. Yes, stupid people annoy me, too. I learned, not too long ago, that it is completely pointless to bother trying to explain things to them. xrc6--I'll be laughing about your tadpole comment for a long time. Being a cynic, I would guess that the owner cares more about cheap help than competent help, but it may, at the very least, make you feel better to write the letter.
that reminds me at Circuit City, this pepporoni faced kid told me i could SLI a Voodoo 3 with a Voodoo 2. if nothing else, i guess its a good way to get people to never forget you, cause clerks/salespeople who are helpful, get quickly forgotten, yet one tard remark from them and its burned in your brain forever. lol, yeah, i actually got that from this old man i worked with years ago that said that too me once...lol, now when i get mad at anyone younger than me, its the first sentence i think of. funny old guy, he said alot of funny stuff like that. offtopic but my favorite quote from him is when he was talking about this hot chick and said "she's got just enough a$$ on her to keep your nutz from scraping across the bedsheets when your *** her." never heard a 70 yr old man talk like that, maybe thats what makes it so funny
BTW: when did they make the rule that you don't have to know your products in order to sell them? :biggun: EX: "should I give him toast with his "Eggs Benedict? :stewpid: It really pissses me off when I walk into a "Computer Store" and the sales guy doesn't have a clue what I'm talking about. :knock:
As a lonnnnnng time computer tech now, I have definitely heard a lot of stuff.. There is NOTHING funnier though than sitting quietly among people that try to talk about what they think they know about computers and hardware.. I usually just sit quietly and listen for them to get it all out. That's when I open my mouth and say "okay, so by my calculations, "x" amount of what you just said is incorrect. Would you like me to let you know where you went wrong?".. see I like giving people the option of whether they want me to make a fool of them or not.. its just common courtesy. lol But yeah the worst is when you're in a store where people should know what they're talking about.. sadly in today's world everyone thinks they know something and get hired for positions that they are clearly not qualified for. When I can walk into a store and teach the salesman something there is definitely a problem..
After reading through this thread, all I can say is; I am glad I have a MicroCenter in town. Their people actually know what they are talking about. And, I would never, ever buy anything computer related (except maybe printer paper or blank CDs) from one of the box stores.
That is so funny! Kinda reminds me when I use to go to the local fleamarket here and talk to the dude that sold used computers. I have to say I would talk to the dude like I had no clue about computers & after he wanted to rape me on prices I would hand him his ass & let him know he was a crook! That dude would tell you anything to get you buy the garbage he was selling. Example I once was priced a Intel Pentium 3 800Mhz Dell Inspiron 8000 notebook with 256 memory & a 20GB HD for $500.00 I was even told it was very upgradeable for gaming? This happened last year around March or so :nerd: What an idiot!
the unfortunate thing is that the general public has no idea about computers other than their daily use of them at work or home for internet/e-mail. so, either by utter ignorance or by being outright misleading, vendors take advantage. i kinda look back and wish i had talked to that kid about his 8600...
Makes me glad i have no TigerDirect or PC World or any stores like that around here that sell hardware. Even Best Buy is a joke. Main reason why whenever i walk into a store where i either know exactly what i'm looking for, or if i'm just browsing, if someone asks if they can help me find anything i just tell them that i'm just looking. If they stick around kinda hovering around me.... i wander off, until they decide to wander off. Funniest thing just happened today actually in Best Buy. This guy was looking for a computer, i guess for the office of his business. God knows what kinda business, but i guess he kinda planned on doing a bit of gaming on it too. They looked at the Gateway FX system with a Core i7 920. I guess the lady that was helping them didn't even know how to find the system properties, because she sat at the chair where they had the FX system at the end of an aisle... tried opening IE... realised that wasn't working.... and then went to their little computer system at the end of another aisle to look up what the specs were. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9081325&type=product&id=1218017465909 I just kept sittin there thinking ".... do i WANT to tell them that if they're looking for a computer with similar specs, i could probably build one for them for probably around $400 less?" As for the stories about Geek Squad and such.... yeah.... i wouldn't want to work there probably even if i was getting paid a nice hefty salary. From what i've heard, they follow a specific guide for specific issues. If your memory fails... they have a specific order of steps to take in order to fix it. It's not like how if we're sitting here, we'll find out what the problem is, fix it as fast as possible, and be on our way. They basically try to milk as much money as they can by making a simple task take as long as possible. If you ask me... not the greatest way to get repeat customers. Then again... might explain why the Geek Squad counter at my local-ish Best Buy is usually not crowded with computers.
ABSOLUTELY Right.. This reason alone is why I get so much business.. because most people may not know about computers per se, but most people are definitely sharp enough to know when they are being ripped off or given weird information. But yknow, those clowns make me look like a genius to my clients, and ultimately my clients know that I'm not stringing them along or just trying to make a quick buck off of them All of the above = clients for life and all the return business will keep me working for a looooong time.
