You don't even tell us what you plan on doing if it's just gaming then the 4790k is still good. I have a 4790k @ 4.4GHz and it's just fine for now. You might as well wait for 9th gen 8C/16T cpu to hit the market as that thing will be a beast. enter the giveaway if you can then if you win a cpu you can keep and upgrade or sell it and add that towards your next upgrade.

Yes, your CPU is fine. You won't notice a difference in speed at the desktop level, and you won't see a difference in 3D level. Its a pointless sidegrade. Whats more important is what video card you have, and shell out money for a new card maybe or save up for a SSD and what not, do something but dont waist your time with a sidegrade that needs a new motherboard and new RAM. Like DiceAir said your best bet is to wait for the 9th gen then you can perhaps think about getting rid of your parts and getting the new box. However if it was me, which it kinda is, I wouldn't waist my money on ninth gen either.... No need to. Games take up avg 30 percent of CPU power and my DAW takes up 50 to 60 percent CPU at most. Im good with my rig and I will wait until I have my CPU usage go to 100 percent on games and 100 percent on a project then I will upgrade. :)

Yes ultraex and like I said earlier he has to on top of the CPU buy a new mobo and new RAM, so its gonna cost him over 750 dollars for nothing.

He will see a boost but it wont be like going from a FX 8120 to a 4970k.

    I saw a boost going from a 3930k @ 4.1 to my 1500x @ 4.0. Eventhough 8 vs 12 threads there.
Windows was alot more snappy actually.

Yes, games use like 7 percent of CPU power for me. Unreal Tournament Alpha takes up 7 percent like I said. My Sonar DAW takes up 60 percent on a huge project. So until games take up 100 percent of CPU and Sonar takes 100 percent of power then I will upgrade. Thank you

If you are going to upgrade, I suggest upgrading to the 8700K. Don't waste 100 more for the 8086K.

Yes I agree 350 dollars for the 8700k is a steal of a deal my friend. Also your set with the rig for many years to come, only having to upgrade the video card and what not.

This, I watched techspot video and its basically a 8700k with a "iconic" name. Not worth extra money, both OC exactly the same.

For us it will be a nice 40 dollar gas plus the drive plus I don't want one, cuz you have to buy DDR4 RAM and I need 64GB of that, and a good motherboard so the cost goes way up....

I'd say definitely you are going too huge min fps boosts with faster ram 3200mhz+ vs your ddr3 2400mhz. Go for it!

Unless you play, work or need something at 5 GHZ or more cores, NO.

No game outside of Civilization, Fallout or ARMA really needs a cpu that fast. 99% games need a faster GPU. Spend your money on Vega or 1080 Ti, unless you are hardcore on cpu bound games.
