Yes. Going from an i5 6600 with DDR4-2133 to an i7 8700K with DDR4-3000 would increase FPS. Whether or not it's worth the cost to upgrade is purely up to you.

I recently went from a 3570K @ 4.4 with 2133 ddr3 to a 8700K (HT disabled) @ 5.0 with 3200 ddr4. My average in GTA V online went from 68-72 fps to 103-108 fps @ 1440p and that is with a 1070. Not only did the fps skyrocket, the overall responsiveness is like night and day and that is with gsync on. All my thread heavy games saw huge increases as expected as did a couple MMOs even at 8700K stock

In games like Arma 3...i`d say no, but in multi core games you`ll benefit from more cores newer motherboard features higher speed and faster ram and should give that 1080 more room to breathe, if your an overclocker you`d get gain more if you only have the non K 6600 as you`ll get a bump in core speed but depends if the 8600k is 4.3 turbo on all cores or just the one, which version of MSI Z370I are you going for...if its full size atx you`ll get gains there with more expansion options, as good as itx boards can be...they do have there limits and bigger is better, despite all that....do you really need more or do you just have an itch that can only be scratch`d with an upgrade.

Even going from an i5 6600 to an i5 8600K, you should see a reasonable improvement since you'll have 6 cores at "up to" 4.3ghz compared to 4 cores at "up to" 3.9ghz. Even at the base frequency you'll have 6 cores at 3.6ghz compared to 4 cores at 3.3ghz. Regardless of what we think, or what the performance data shows, whether or not the upgrade is worth the cost is entirely up to you.
