i think 190.38 is eating me (wide pic) - fixed!

    After updating to 190.38-WHQL [edit:ON WINXP-SP3];

well i FINALLY narrowed down why the hell suddenly my HKEY current user - windows - run key (HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run) keeps getting wiped out after reboot. Using RegMon to log at boot here is what i find. (and yes yes i did full unistall and cleanup of old driver)

Damn, going to roll back to 186.xx and ill post if it fixes.

Ok here's an update, i fixed it just by uninstalling the nview display manager (or something like that) in add/remove programs, (im on xp-sp3 by the way) and its fixed! Just rebooted twice and no more CU run key dissapearing act. I again then remade the run key, set the programs i have to startup back to startup in their configs (some programs that use that key in the CU area) and no probs. Awesome... hope this helps anyone else with this issue.

I never even used it, it installed by default, but now seems to have it's own entry for add/rem progs. I guess its for people with multi-displays or something, but i've never needed it. I guess i dont need it then? Everything runs fine without it.

Hey, joe187. I have the exact same problem. I reported the problem to XFX support but they couldn't duplicate it and requested that I reinstall my OS - which I cannot justify doing.

I have now uninstalled the NVIDIA nView Desktop Manager and rebooted a few times just to see if nwiz.exe deletes that key again, so far so good!

Thanks. I will let the XFX guys see this thread and maybe they can escalate the issue.

joe187, if you could, please go to http://www.nvidia.com/object/driverqualityassurance.html and report the problem. Put a link to this thread and a description of the issue. I will do the same.

Edit: Also, I wouldn't use regmon if I were you, joe. Process Monitor is more comprehensive. Just go to the Microsoft Sysinternals site and get it.

nwiz.exe deletes that registry key. It is a key which legitimate programs use when you enable them to start up with Windows. When this key is deleted, the programs are not started automatically. This is evil behaviour by nwiz.exe because it did not create that key and it should not delete it under any circumstances.

i used Startup CPL to narrow this down lol,

I had a friend contact Brian_S on the nvidia forums, as he can push the word to his nvidia contacts, hopefully they can fix this issue.

its annoying having my anydvd, creative tray and nhancer keys getting wiped at startup.

Oh, i also noticed that the nvidia driver service STILL causes a login slowdown on XP >.<

nwiz.exe is apart of nvidia driver so I dont think you should be worried hell I even manually force off nwize.exe in MSCONFIG or Regedit

    not worried, pissed off.
pissed off that the application touches and voids a registry key that it has no reason to be accessing.

Its easily fixed Paradox, simply change the start type to manual, rather then automatic.

...infact thats been the same fix for the past 7 years

XFX support just told me that nvidia is aware of this issue. Hopefully it will be fixed in the next release.

k so I changed "Universal Plug & Play Device Host" & "NVIDIA Display Driver Service". is t5hat enough or can I also disable some of the other proceses to fasten my startup even more?

I am sorry and I don't want to be a jerk, but could you please create another thread asking about tweaking Windows services? You are kind of diluting the thread.

Isn't nwiz related to the desktop manager which is no longer part of the package?

Can't remember off the top off my head..
