OP, X3:TC is fantastic.
When you get a mission, write down the basics of where you need to go as sometimes its not obvious when you look at the logs.

I make notes of prices and available tech at each planet I visit on paper.
It takes the mysticism out of where to go and where to get things cheap.
To make this simpler, use lined paper or make your own layout to fill in on blank paper.

There are websites that tell you anything about the game and you can cheat a little if you are having a hard time.

 

Not to sound silly, but have you played starcraft 2 ? Its a scifi setting. DOW 1&@ aren't bad either.

Last but not the least, try shattered horizon.

 

try to get in to eve, do the tutorial, find a corporation that accepts beginners and trains them. you wont find a better game than eve in the space genre.

 

It runs on single core and likes high MHz's...

I talked with him on Steam. He does not like SC2, dont know why.
He does have Warhammer 40k DoW + Winter Assault & Warhammer 40K DoW2 + expansion.

Not a fan of base building on those games, so did like DoW2 more than first one.

Did not talk about Shattered Horizon, but it's on his Steam account and 2,2h played.

Anyways, some real time strategy games in space with big capital ships.

Home World 2 would be awesome if you could buy it digitally.

It does have ground battles, but it also has space battles with large ships.

Well, runs quite well on my Nehalem too :nerd:

He has ME1 & ME2. ME1 has 1.2h on Steam, might have passed other version of that game tough (Xbox?). ME2 has 18.2h on his Steam profile.

It's damn hard to recommend game to him because he has **** loads of those, sometimes easier to look at his game list and say some game from there which he has not played.

 

it runs fine on full L2 cache yorkfield too, i get 92fps on avg in that X3TC bench, but still it can crawl down to 23fps at one point in 1st part of the bench..

when i mentioned SandyBridge, i had its 256bit AVX in mind - ~30% (or more) faster 128bit SEE executions make allot of difference in such single threaded apps, nehalem and yorkfield can't replace that with its 128bit :nerd:

 

Was just looking at my game collection, I should mention Independence War 2. Classic space game! You should definitely check it out.

 

Second the recommendation of Space Rangers 2. Very interesting little game, sadly it was crippled by Starforce. It's available on Impulse now, sans the DRM.

 

What about Eve are you finding difficult? I know there's a handful of Eve vets on these forums that would be happy to help if you detailed your problems.

 

lol, no kidding. Right away I recommended the ME games, and he has played them both. If he has the genre mostly covered, better to tell us what he's already played! otherwise were all just throwing out repeats

 

Cant check his profile now (at school), but he did have about 315 games on his Steam account + Impulsedriven & Direct 2 Drive games...

On the other hand, i think iam gonna focus on EVE online again wit ha new character.

my steam at home(currently iam at work) still downloading X series...will try them too..this topic is done i guess...its ok that nothing left important i MISSed, i mean was looking for a game that i never heard of it...but it looks like i played the good games or still playing(SINS OF SOLAR EMPIRE)..and will check EVE and X series..

Finished Independence War 1 and have 2 on gog.com..played for a while..really a good game..may continue that too...actually i want a game like NEXUS o SINS of solar empire due mouse control ship and guns and making tactics u know. i also got Space Wolves series..not bad...

But EVE...oh eve, why u just cant be my friend lol..u guys saying joining to a CORP will make things good...the problem is not the tutorial..i know those basics good...i dont have difficulty.. maybe game develops so slow and makes me bored..but thats me not the game..game is awesome!

Homeworld 2 plus the complex 74 mod
adds heaps of extras to homeworld which imo is the best scfi rts ever

i so wish for a modernized x-wing or freespace

 

iam looking for HOME WORLD 2..shamefully never played unlegit copy of it. i dont like t play unlegit games..iam trying to buy the game but cant find it in stores here as u cant find old games here..and no digital purchase is available for that game too..its available on amazon but games from amazon may not be delivered here..shame and lame .. or if u just help me to find to order a new copy of HW2 from a trustful online store which will deliver it to here.

 

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned but Black Prophecy is going to be released this year sometime and it's going to be like Freelancer (or rather Freespace) but with next gen graphics. I looked at the youtube video and it looks pretty amazing :

I haven't played an all out space game in a very long time. Last game was Free Space 2 and I enjoyed the hell out of that game. I'm really excited for this game.

Yeah, sorry. Fighting against huge mother ships that are/were similar in size if not bigger than those in Freespace 2 is a definite win for me. Can't wait.
