I just really wanted to share this!

I bought 4oz. Singer Sewing Machine Oil off of Amazon, and a Hypodermic Syringe.

I unscrewed the noisy little fans off of the GPU Heatsinks, flipped them over, then gently peeled back the stickers on the back of the fans.

I found the cavity under the sticker, and applied the oil into the cavity.

I then recovered it with the existing sticker, and then gently pushed down on it, forcing some of the oil into the bearings.

Tada! totally silent fans are once again factory silent!

Ive been repeating this process on the CPU Fan, the case fans etc... The computer sounds like it did in 1999 again, it also brought the temps down quite a bit!

    Just thought id share!:nerd:

I also have a voodoo 5 5500 AGP, for about a month and had noisy fans too.
Despite the fact that I put some oil in the fans, they have some ball noise, I think their bearing is worn-out.

I decided to change them and I used coolers form deep cool, V50 model.
Very silent, much better than original coolers, and cheap too.

This makes me want to fire up my retro rig at some point...

Has a Voodoo 5-5500 AGP as well.

I replaced the stock coolers with a couple of nice sized Super Socket 7 heatsinks. I think the stock heatsinks are still around somewhere.. maybe. Has been quite a while.

That's an incredibly clean machine you have there. jelly.
I really miss those days. Glad you got the V5 fans running nice again, too. What are the specs?

Feel free to share your "cool story, bro" stories anytime.

I gave away my Voodoo cards not long after 3Dfx sold to Nvidia. I remember having to modify my case to fit the Voodoo 5500 cause it was so long. But I still think the Geoforce 3 was the most amazing card to come out for it's time. The Voodoo's were ok for Glide based games but were always lacking. It wasn't until Geforce 3 that all my games really shined with good frames. Good times.

Anyone remember Alienware's Witch boards? Had both Voodoo and Nvidia's so you could switch in between for best compatibility. Pretty cool tech for it's time I think

I still own my V5 5500, but am thinking of letting her go! I believe I still have the 3dfx driver disc too...

EDIT: I did decide to sell my prized 3dfx card. It is up in the For Sale Buy or Trade section if anyone is interested. Special Guru only price :) http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=390452

    Fix your attitude, bro.

@OP. Nice, I'd love to have some old hardware like that. Never kept it though.

I was going to say...thread revival.

I personally think it's rather cool to see old rigs brought back to life.
