I remember seeing the crysis tech demo face for dx10 and going WOW!!

But now as I look at this im wondering that this being capable of rendering in dx9, sort of diminishes dx10 to just a fps enhancer with a bit of eye candy here and there. Not a major revolutiuon in graphics as microsoft said it was.

    Anyone else get tht feeling?

i agree with you brendanstacey, from the demo video in guru3d downloads i wasn't really impressed with dx10......... i dont see much changes from dx9, i think they made it to simply force people to upgrade to vista...

would you rather run a game in dx9 with 5 fps or dx10 with 30 even if the effects are the same?

you have got to wonder why the Demos (may have this wrong but i have read) for the 8800 series are not in DX10 and vista as thats what the card is meant for. The point of the demo is to show what your card can do an 8800 series is DX10 designed for Vista. Thats is the only DX10 OS and thats what the Demos should use, a DX9 demo for DX10 hardware is a little pointless.

nvidia should provide a video for people not using 8800 series cards or using them in another OS.

yes it is rather interesting that even though this demo does not take advantage of directx10 capabilities (not sure about sm4.0) and still it is restricted for 88xx series cards..

7xxx series users should get at least a HD video like Barry J mentioned...

It's OpenGL. You can do all DX10 effects in OpenGL too without performance hit so if this does not work with GeForce 7 card it might use geometry shaders or other DX10 effects (that cane be done in OpenGL too but not with DX9 hardware).

wow a humanhead.. like when are you going to actually see this kind of graphics quality in games???

    answer: NEVER!!!

perhaps Nvidia should stop dicking around with demos and get busy with highly reliable and performance/quality drivers for Vista and those of us that spend effin $1200+ for (2) 8800 GTX cards for SLI.

its good but people are forgetting this is only a head , current gen cards wouldnt even be ablt to render a full body with that detail , were well off seeing games with this sort of detail

Of course it is, it's up to developers to actually spend time and make use of the library and it's abilities?

but thats what DX10 is mainly about..

extra performance, thus allowing devs to add more detail/eyecandy

Probably because they do that every series including this one already with the Adrianna demo, it doesn't really show off the tech very well, we want dimpled rough skin not silky smooth, so we can see all the self shadowing and highlighting from lights etc.

    Hmm, I'm getting a max of like 4fps with this demo no matter the settings....currently running 158.43's on Vista x64 - with 8800gtx's sli'd, I'd assume higher....maybe I'll do a reinstall.

    Not sure about anybody else....

I dual boot XP and Vista.

I loaded it onto XP. It ran... but very slowly. I couldn't use the mouse to move around.

I ran it in Vista... it ran... a lot faster. I could move around... no problems.

I wouldn't do a reinstall just because it chugs along at 4fps i ran it on mine @ 1920x1200 and i wouldn't call it very smooth it just might not be optimized for sli
