    Hey guys.
I have some pretty bad screen tearing right in the middle of my screen going vertically, it appears in youtube videos as well as vlc and such.
Haven't played any games in months so I have no idea if it happens in games too, I have all newest drivers installed, what can I do to locate the problem?

I never knew horizontal tearing had a sibling.

Sorry for having been away for so long.
The problem doesn't appear in games, only on the desktop.
    Any ideas?

Does it also happen if you disable hardware acceleration?

    Where can I do this?
Edit: or did you mean to disable it completely in windows 7?

On youtube rightclick on a video then click on settings->display.

    For vlc go to settings->input&codecs.

On my system if I am outputting to both my TV and my computer screen I get video tearing, I assume due to the different refresh rates of the 2 screens. It's pretty annoying.

Weird, I just noticed, that it doesn't appear always, I was just watching some youtube videos and movies, and I can't see anything wrong.
It seems as though it would appear randomly between restarts or so, I'll have to investigate further.

Some people have fixed that by switching the power states in the Bios.

I actually went searching and found the solution.

In Catalyst Control Center I had to go Desktop Management > Creating and Arranging Desktops, and set the TV to "make preferred". Now I can run video with the screens cloned and there is no tearing.

    :)

Hi, I'm bumping this thread in hopes for someone to have ideas on how to locate this problem.
It seems as though it would appear randomly after boot, sometimes it's there, sometimes it's not. Assuming it's not there yet, it sometimes appears out of no where.
It's not like your normal screen tearing, it's super noticeable, it's like the 2 parts of the screen (it's a like going vertically down the middle of the screen) would be waaaaay out of sync, it's especially noticeable if the camera in whatever film moves in a horizontal line.

    http://unitzeroone.com/blog/2009/11/30/help-me-test-flash-vsync-and-screen-tearing/
I've used these 2 screen tearing tests at the bottom of the article, which seem to work good, and of course, movies and films/youtube.

I've already tried to reinstall the newest ATI drivers, but no hopes there (also tried tweaking a few settings), what do you guys think should be my next move. It's not that I don't know what to do really, it's just that I don't know what could be the most likely source, I don't have much time these days so I'd rather not want to test everything I can come up with.
Could it be my monitor? Maybe I should boot to linux and do some testing there.
    Meanwhile, any other ideas?
(Oh, and my system isn't overclocked, like my profiles shows)

Just wanted to let you know, in case anyone else has this issue, it was Zune causing the issue, even if it's minimized, it causes screen tearing along the outlines of the window.
