2001 Nissan Skyline R34 GTT, 35k miles, very good condition. New York City area.
The only forums I've found with people selling this car were some UK forums, and they were selling 98's and 99's. They were going for around 12-12.5k pounds.

Heh, guess I should've mentioned this. Sites like Kelley Blue Book and Edmunds do not have this car listed, since it's an import-only car. That's why I ask here.
Also, I'm not sure if I can go by another country's prices, since it's all based on ease of acquisition. Since it's much easier to get these imported cars in AUS, the value is likely lower there. Even in California, the value is lower than in New York. Unfortunately, NY is about as far as you can be from Japan:(

I'm guessing someone could list that for $40k+ in the United States

I think cars depreciate at 20% per year. Check that Blue Book site.

Probably ~$20,000 or so. What's important is to make sure the car IS legalized for operation in the U.S.

Only if it was an R34 GTR. It's stupid rare and I'm sure will have no problem selling at whatever he asks for the simple fact they have more hype than the king of hype himself, the Supra.

Well before you buy it, make sure what modifications were made to it.

Obviously if they ****ed up an upgrade you shouldn't buy it. Usually the only reason these car get imported is to soup 'em up.

I'm guessing that's why you wanna buy it right? In all honesty, I'd say just buy a Mitsu or Subaru... since they're far more common and cheaper compared to the skyline. This means more knowledge in your area.

Really, really depends as the car is 100% illegal.
No one has legitmatly federalized the r34.
Lots to someone who's willing to risk it. If you get caught with teh car, it gets crushed (no chance to export), BTW.
Skyline's a bit overrated. Yes, they ahve a great AWD and good performance, but there are legal cars that do that.

The guy claims it's got a clean title, said he used to live in Texas. It'd be a local deal so I can check things out. Yes GT-R's would be crazy expensive, probably around $100k.
I've asked auto forums and people have said a car like I described would go for around $35-50k. The dude is selling it for $45k.
After some research I found out that R34 Skylines came in 3 types:
Sedan - 4 door family cars
Coupe - 2 door sporty cars
GT-R - the legend
This GTT is basically the top of the sporty Coupes, in essence it's just one step down (albeit big one) from the purebred racing GT-R.
Differences are that it uses the RB25DET single turbo engine, instead of the GT-R's famous RB26DETT twin turbo, and that it's a RWD, instead of the GT-R's ATTESA 4WD system. Everything else is more or less equal on both cars, including the HICAS steering system.

In all honesty it's a perfect deal for me. I get decent performance with the same good looks and prestige. Since I don't race anyway, I don't need a GT-R, nor do I have the money for one. I know there are other cars out there that are better than this in one way or another, but this is my "dream car" and for things like that you'd choose in favor of indulgence over rationality:D

Also, some guy offered a very similar car but in black (which I'd like more) and 42k miles on the odometer in Florida for $38k. So it's a choice of money over convenience.

lol overated? lolx1000

In the UK, these cars are very popular with the car modding scene. We have specialist tuners who import every conceivable mod for these cars.

Its widely know that if you spend £5000 ($9000 USD) on a skyline, you can easily get the BHP up to and beyond 700BHP, and you will see speeds of over 190MPH.

These cars will Pi$$ all over any ferrari, porsche1 :)[IMG][/IMG]

I'm sorry, but they are overrated. Just like the Supra. Sure, its a great car with lots of potential and amazing performance when modified, but at stock they're not much faster than the other Jap supercars of the time.

imo you cannot compare an R34 with a Supra, the skyline is far more advanced in every way, even stock.

you can in terms of RAw power, Acceleration and top end speed.

If I had £25,000 to spend on a car, it would be a mint R34 Vspec GTR, with several modifications.

0-60 in under 4 seconds is quaranteed (which beats pretty much all Ferraris, expect the F40 and Enzo) and well out performs the common porsche.

Have you ever seen a skyline do over 210MPh? its sight to behold!

In the US. you have to realize that he is talkinga bout spending $45k. $45k will buy you a hell of a lot of other cars that won't be crushed if the EPA find it. And his example doesn't have the engine or AWD that are key to the skyline mystique here. those run ~$100k.
For that, I can get a 993TT and mod the piss out of it. Oh and it won't get crushed.
The skyline is a big deal because it is now relatively cheap for what it is. that's just not the case in the US.
BTW, for ~$40k? Walk into a lotus dealership. the Lotus is one of the most amazing drivers cars period and the most amazing below ~$70k
Also, note that with teh big skyline importer taken down, its field day on skylines. Cops know what they are. Do you really want to worry about a ticket and getting your car taken on the spot?
/Also, no such thing as clean title on it.

The Skyline is a great car.

Now that I've said that, each and every one of you that believe anything close to "beating Porsches and Ferraris" stock, have all taken a front row seat on the hype bandwagon. Congratulations.

The R34 Skyline has the RB26DETT. It's rated at 280 PS (206 kW) @ 6800 rpm and 289 ft·lbf (392 N·m) @ 4400 rpm. Now tell me, how's a 3400 lb car going to accelerate 0-60 in 3.9x seconds with 320 BHP at best?

It won't.
