only the FX5900 / FX5950 are the only good FX cards.. the rest all suck.. the FX5700 used to known for a "good overclocker" but it still is really bad.. try the new 6xxx cards from nvidia or the x800 from ATI.

  3. There's maybe a 20-25% difference in performance. But neither will be enough to play todays game at a respectable frame rate.

There's more like a 100% difference in performance... but neither is worth buying...

Like was said before, the only FX cards even remotely worth buying at this point would be:

    FX5800
    FX5800Ultra
    FX5900
    FX5900XT
    FX5900se
    FX5900Ultra
    FX5950Ultra

If you can get one for REALLY REALLY cheap, then a 5700Ultra would be acceptable, but not recommended for any real serious present gaming.

Wouldnt buy a FX range card if i was you, even if your 5500 is just an OC'ed 5200.

$50 more USD over any FX card would get you a 6600gt....and thats old on comparisons

Don't get anything under the 5900XT

btw.. the XT is a beast overclocker on early revisions :D

Don't buy a 5xxx series GPU period. Get a 6200/6600 if you are on a budget.

    Hey... Slowdown guys...

Batryn has a PENTIUM 3 processor, if he will going to get a 6 serries card, then it is useless. The processor will just drag the videocard down...

So for the question about the difference in performance between FX5700 and FX5200, the anwer is below 50%... But like the other guru's said, if you can find an FX5700 ULTRA (GDDR3 MEM VERSION) grab it for the condition that it is cheap (less than 90USD)...

Also buying higher than 5700 on pentium 3 is useless for me. Its like driving a ferrari on a sidewalk... Its not only the processor but also the memory, mobo chipset...

But if you plan to put this card on a P4 2.0 up system, then i suggest getting the 6 serries card. But not the 6200 (any version), i prefer the FX5700 ULTRA than this. 6200 is superior in technology (SM 3.0 and PIPELINES) but in pure speed, 5700 ULTRA will beat this card. The same with ATI 9600XT...

hell no. a 5900 creams a 6200... flat out.. theres no way that puny little 128bit card can out do a 5900.

    i wouldn't get a 6600 either,.. i wouldn't go any less then the 6600gt in the geforce 6 series

yeah, if you are with a fx 5200 64bit you will see improvement with upgrade and 6200 should be nice.

Avoid the 6200 version, its like a 5200 with an UPGRADED SM SHADER and NUMBER OF PIPELINES... 5700 ULTRA will own this card in pure speed.

Specially this version of FX5700 ULTRA. It is equiped of a 128MB GDDR3 memory... heres the specs...

U realy have to watch out what kind u buy... i onw a Club3d 5900 XT and is the worst OC in the 5900xt range. Some others builders are easy to flash.

Anyway, why are u intrested in the 5xxx cards? I must say that i am disapointed in the card. I suggest u go for a budged 6xxx type.

    Good luck

who ever said the 5700u was only 20% faster than the 5200 needs to jump off somthing very tall because thats b/s the 5700u was an awesome mid range card. Yea it lags behind now due to poor dx9 performance but in 8.1 and lower it really was the geforce FX savour much more so than the 5900 series which tbh got owned by the 9800's.

the 5900XT came out later than the 5700u and was a better card in most situations but the 5700 was an awesome card none the less much better than the 9600XT.

the 5700u is rougly 2-3 times more powerful than an fx5200. It has more power behind it than an fx5900ultra ad 5950 interms of fillrates etc but it was just held up by its memory which at the time was really good 2.2ns 128bit. Compared to the 64bit 4/5ns youd get on a standard fx5200

asfor the 5700td its like the 6600GT/6600 a 6600 is fast but a GT just adds that extra bit of umph :)

btw this is from my experience and ive owned all the cards mentioned within the last 2 years.

An FX 5700 is about 2x faster than a 5200, but like others have said, the only FX cards worth the money today are the FX 5800 or better cards.

Its better to get a GeForce 6600 series card with GDDR3 memory. Far more value for money IMO.
