http://homesupport.cisco.com/en-us/support/routers/WRT54GS2 That's the link to the router I have. I downloaded the firmware file but its a .bin and I can't figure out how to open it. I tried mounting it with Virtual Clonedrive, but no luck in it mounting.
Open your router's configuration via internet browser. Then go to Administration and Firmware Upgrade.
To update any router, you also need to connect the PC ,that contains the "downloaded" firmware update, to the router via an Ethernet cable. Never process updates via a wireless connection.
hey Peanutmanak47 - This link should have the majority of the info you need: http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.a...74d75913e61386a712188_4030.xml&pid=96&slnid=4 I would ensure that you have a note of your current connection details for the internet as it *may* be lost during the upgrade.
here found this when googling it here is step by step http://www.askgetanswer.com/cgi-bin/answer_view.cgi?cat=Humanities_Races&queid=756011 let me know if that works for you
Also, don't upgrade the routers firmware over a wireless connection as it usually resets the config (so make a backup of it first). Run the firmware upgrade through a physical connection.
It is not because the upgrade will reset the configuration but it will turn off the wireless network "radios" a some point.
Some updates might reset the configuration, depends on what there is in the update. It's rare thou. Also, it is considered good practice to always make a backup of the startup configuration as the current installed firmware before upgrading.
With all new d-link routers the config is reset to factory settings when running a firmware upgrade so it is essential you make a copy of the config unless there aren't many custom settings... Jamal Saleh Lynn, MA
