How do I read the Bible? From beginning to end or do I need to read something specific out of it?

Agreed, organ donation is better for maximising profits, a childs kidney can easily offset what you would pay for their education in the future.

 

I think I was 7 - 8 years old and started from the beginning of the Bible. Did read it thru. But now I've left the church due to compulsory tax we have to pay here if member of the Lutheran / Orthodox church.

 

I never got past page 16 of Genesis. Once it's just about "guy X had Y children and lived to Z years of age", for page after page, I couldn't be bothered to continue.
As school education actually has religion in it here (although it's a matter of debate how good it is, or if it should even be there), it's more than enough to grasp the basics.

Also, if you want to adhere to the Bible's teachings, read the 10 commandmends (Exodus iirc), and be done with it.

 

you have to read the bible knowing it has hundreds of authors.

and i'm not being pro or anti anything. it's like Joe Friday said on "Dragnet", "just the facts ma'am".

the most recent finger on the scales of interpretation is the King James bible, but even it has Chapter and Verse direct from the decisions made by the Council of Nicaea, under the direct supervision of Caesar Constitine in Constantinople. they choose what you see and what you don't in the bible and there was far more to choose from than you see in the bible today, which you can call edited by definition.

so whatever "holy inspiration or direction" each of the original authors possessed cannot be considered consistant to the original as each book of the bible had a more "modern" context in which it was taken. this was begun by the Jewish tradition of religious debate of the Torah (Old Testament), and virtually all of the Old Testament as we see it now is based on the "modern" interpretation of the scholars at the time. and of course, the New Testament has books and "letters" by the Apostles who are clearly different from each other.

If you're having trouble understanding it you can always find a new translation, I think some are even online. Where they update the language for today to make it easier to understand. Kind of weird in some ways but helpful in others. Sorry you lost that Bible verse. Maybe google some phrases like it you remember and it may show up so you have it again? I would just start from the beginning and go from there.

 

All people needed to do was commit me to a mental facility, fix my mind, and let me know what the human mind is capable of or I never be a believer in God and Christ.

And I am pretty sure that while the Tora's got great similarities with the Bible's Old Testament, their message on things is similar than the Christian Bible's; and also, I'm pretty positive that the Quran has a similar thing to say about suffering in life.

That's at least what somebody studying comparative religious sciences would might suggest. You know, those people Sheldon hates so much.

 

oh, and very importantly, do not get triggered by the events in the bible (not limited to incest, rape, selling your children into slavery, mass executions, and more).you have to look at that and appreciate information age civilization compared to the lack of or the beginning of civilization

I struggle with mental illness every day. I struggle with depression. Anxiety. You name it. But I do not doubt God because of it. Earth has to be flawed to make the afterlife a better experience. And even with these issues you have, you could be worse. You're playing games, you're of critical thinking, with all of your abilities to stand, walk, see, hear, etc. Look more at the good things you have that are taken for granted by most. And appreciate them. I have to stop myself and remind myself of these things when I want to throw a pity party.

Some minds can't be fixed. They just work differently.

 

I grew up Lutheran, and went to church in school every wednesday and with family on Sundays starting at kindergarten all the way to 7th grade nonstop. I am so done with religion I've had my fill long time ago. Now about the bible sorry but it's been touched and written by mans hand sorry if I don't trust a damn thing in it. And the way I was treated in that damn school was enough too. It was a 1 room deal at school everyday and with the same kids every year for 7 years we all just moved up a grade but stayed together. I just had it crammed down my throat so much I've had enough. Is there a higher power? it depends what higher power is and I'm not sure on that either. I just know I'm here and have to survive and god has nothing to do with it. My father is a long time drunk and trust me praying doesn't do a damn thing either I did endlessly when I was a kid for help and it's not like I was asking to be rich just to stop me getting my azz kicked by the azz. Anyhow that's my take on bible sorry I went farther than that, it just came out. So I guess my advice would be don't read it. If you don't like what I wrote it's cool this is just me. Just like a cook book, it is not supposed to be read from start to finish like a novel. You need to know what you are looking for, find it and read it.

 

The book of Enoch is amazing and has been in the Ethiopian bible for 2000 years. It was removed in western bibles, even in the much lauded KJV.

The gist is UFO's are fallen angels, the spirits that speak to psychics are demonic entities (disembodied spirits), they are the children of Angels and human females, angelic human hybrids, once known as The Nephilim and/or giants of genesis 6. The abominations were cursed by god to never feel sated, and their parents were condemned to watch their decline. Once lived in harmony with man they started to devour everything. man could no longer feed them, so the giants started to eat them and go insane. Their angelic parents wept at such a sight. Belonging neither in hell or heaven they wander the earth whispering to man, attempting to bring mankind to sin, to prevent our passage to salvation.

Remember folks God is merciful and sin is like a barrier to heaven. It's not that God won't let you in, you just cannot enter while sinful. like some protective energy field or something. A guess, as we cannot possibly know. I hope so anyway. to think that the creator is fat bald AND LUSTFUL LIKE THE REST OF US IS JUST HORRIFIC.

 

OK, i read it, when i was younger, beginning to end, that and an english and a spanish dictionary.
read genesis and the other well known old testament books if you like, those are not Christianity.
They're about God and the Holy Spirit.
Christianity is Jesus Christ, the Son of God, appearing as a very soft distant voice in your ear, asking if you'd like to get to know the ways of his teaching.
read the four apostles they'll give you what you want, then read Pauls books, then real John's Revelation.
Seeing as you're into the stars read the book of Mark first as it's ordered in the exact constellation progression, all twelve.
If you're not into any of that read the Book of John first.
