How come i cant run BF2 With graphics on the highest

i can run BF2 with the graphics all the way up. i thought the 6600GT was a kick A card. can anyone help??

 

The 66 is a mid range card and will play battlefield ok.
I can't play highest

 

It's a kick ass card for $200. Most can be found for around $150 these days. But if you're expecting it to run at the highest quality at high resolution and AA/AF, then you better get a more expensive kick ass card.

 

so 6600GT is better than the 9800PRO or not.

 

I play in High "Default" (lighting/texture:medium) 1024x768. [77.72] 2x aa 2x af driverside 6600gt@520:1000 fraps reads mostly around 30+ on full 32player map. Sometimes drops down to to 20+ in really big gun fights but meh.

 

yo xmodifier u have the same exact card i have. pny. do u have a cooler on urs? how stable is ur oc?

 

and i just tried running bf2 like u said and im jumping every few seconds. im using 77.77 drivers

 

BF2 uses a lot of texture (video) memory, using all high settings with some AA/AF will use almost 512MB of memory, setting everything to medium/high uses 256MB+ of memory, whilst the low/medium settings will still use around 128MB.

Increase your AGP aperture to either 256MB or 512MB and it should help smooth things out, also try using medium texture settings instead of High, reduce the Lighting to Medium/Low and also set Dynamic Shadows and Dynamic Light to Low.

Changing these settings will have virtually no effect on how the game looks but will increase performance by a lot.

 

I play Bf2 with everything on medium settings, 4xAA, 16AF in 1280x1024. I am using 77.77 driversets and have a AMD64 3200+, 2GB RAM OCZ RAM, 6800 ULTRA OC.

 

I can play BF2 on highest settings 1024x768 (can be higher, dont need)...

 

I play the demo 1152x864, 4xaa/4xaf, eveything maxed. But some guy here on guru3d (can't remeber the name) said he uses the same settings, except 1280x960, with 6600GT 256mb! Sounds a bit unreal, don't you think?

This game is, however, designed for 6600GT. See, 9800 pro is almost the same card, but in this game, it get 4fps when 6600GT gets 48 .

And see, it runs like 6800nu, but 6800nu has 256bit vs 128bit and 16x6 vs 8x4. DDR3 can't do SO much. They should have optimized this game to 6800Ultra, not to 6600GT .

 

I can set the gfx to ultrahigh and play smoothly as long as I have the AGP aperture set above 128mb.

 

My over clock is stable so far, im sure i can bump it up a bit more. You should be able to oc your memory to 1000 500x2 no prob. I use coolbits. As for extra cooling, i used arctic silver 5 for gpu & bridge chip...Fan cooling i purchased the vantec spectrum pci slot fan cooler. (also removed sheet metal cover on stock heatsink.)

P.S this card is hot to begin with, idle before cooling mod 59-60 now its around 56-57 not to shabby for a 20 dollar investment.

 

I run BF2 1024x768 High settings 2x AA and it runs flawlessly with occasional lag. If you select High settings it should automatically set textures and lighting to medium. If I try to run those two at high I take a huge performance hit. Also try installing the VIA chipest drivers. That may make the difference for you.

 

I run it in 1280x1024 (high detail) with my ati x800pe, and xp3000+, 1.5GB memory. No performance problems at all.

 

Battlefied 2 is the best example of a poorly coded game. Another good example of bad programming is Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault.

The game`s graphics is average, and the hardware requirements are "out of this world"...

... I am just wondering where in the earh that BattleField2 game is using that "more than 128" megabytes (or 256?) of graphics-card memory so that I cannot run it on "all High" settings on my machine. ( and I read some review... and almost nobody can... whatever high-end the test-PC ).

Just think about Half-Life 2, the game with the most gorgeous graphics ever created... and it is using no more that 64-megabytes of graphics memory for the textures ( can be enabled to be displayed with a console-variable ... I watched that and never went above ~60 megabytes, no matter what settings in the game and what huge outdoor scene ).

EDIT: and if the Half-Life 2 example is not convincing enough, just thing Far Cry !!! The graphics in Far Cry is better than Battlefield2 hands down, no questions asked.
And it is *very happy* with 128 megabytes of graphics memory. And if your`re still not convinced, my final example is DOOM3. Runs like "butter" smooth on my 128-megabyte 6600GT, like 60-80 FPS constant and DOOM3 is known for the huge texrue-memory usage ( multiple layers of textures on all graphics in that game - like 7 layers in someg cases - and yes, it uses 256 megabytes of video ram, but it is so well programmed that I don`t even have "hikkups" while running on a 128mb card with everything "HIGH" + AA + AF ).


Battlefield 2: that is *bad programming* by my books...

I can run everything on highest settings with 2x AA no probs assides from lagging when I originally go in. Give it a minute or two and im good to go.

 

on my rig it uses up to 74% memory (out of 2 gigs!) on everything high 1600x1200 2xAA

Looks sweet but even this beast cant pull of 4xAA with textures or lighting on high at this res... (it can if i drop one of those settings...)

I think so... This is a RAM issue. BF2 needs 2GB to run smoothly from the beginning till the end. The reason u get stutters only in the beginning with 1GB is because it isn't enough for all the textures to load in the beginning, then when they are cached everything runs smoothly.
