I have a P55-UD3 (or UD3R, don't really remember and CBA to check right now because it's irrelevant) and that means one of my PCIe lanes is running in x4 mode for my Crossfired HD6950 Toxic's. About how much performance would I be losing in a game like say Battlefield 3?

Now there was a review about just that, they compared the asus p8p67 with the pro and deluxe versions. The p8p67 has 2 pcie slots but dual cards will run 8x and 4x. It was a bit slower than the others in xfire, but just a bit. Here you go :

P55 has TERRIBLE performance if it's divided 16x/4x, it is way below actual pci-e 4x 2.0 performance.
P55 with 8x/8x is fine, and other chipsets usually have fine 16x/4x performance aswell.
My brother had the same board as you and had low gpu usage on the gpu in the 4x slot, resulting in bad performance and stuttering.
Monitor your GPU usage with afterburner.
