i have this annoying problem that has been getting worse for a while now. across the top of the screen are two faint (getting less so) lines that seem to correspond to the menu and title bars at the top of browser and application windows. they are not visible when windows are open, only at the desktop or in games. i first noticed this a while back, maybe a year or so and now i am starting to notice it more. there is no discoloration, it looks like two faint shadows that don't quite reach all the way across the screen. is this an indicator of my display dieing, or simply a burn in issue? for years now i have had my display set to shutoff after 60min of inactivity...

the display is an envision 1440x900. its about 4 years old...

Burn in's on LCD's are a bit more rare.

Alot more so than Plasmas and the old CRT's.

It could just be a failing panel.
I've had a few fail with just vertical lines down the display. And they just flick between different colors.

Not sure if it's the same as what you're saying.

Maye take a photo if you can so we can have a look?

ill try to take a good photo but since the lines are so faint i don't know if they would even show up. it doesn't act up at all besides these 2 faint horizontal lines across the top of the monitor. it never flickers or anything like that. its kinda hard to describe. the lines are almost colorless and fade into the colors around them.

Did you say it's only when you game?

It could be a bleed effect of the light behind the panel coming through. Right up the top etc.

Particularly notice it with Dark scenes etc.

Ah yep, I see what you're mean.

I'd say the panel is failing.

Still usable, but it's up to you as to when you're going to replace it.

It could be an overheating issue as well, seen that happen. Does it do it when it's just turned on? Or only appear after a while?

Well I'd say the panel is failing.

Not sure if anyone else wants to chime in? =)

i had this exact same thing before on an old lcd. i believed it was burn in from the title/menu bar of programs/windows. i got rid of it by changing the background to white, hiding everything on desktop and leaving the monitor on overnight across several nights. at that time i didn't know about burn-in software so that may be a better bet.

    my old thread here: http://forum.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=170329

imageshack images are deleted but you can see from the thumbnails that it's the same issue. after the lines faded away, i started to use a screensaver and timer to turn off monitor after several minutes. it didn't come back for the rest of the time i owned it.

If it's burn-in, try a few pixel fixer applications. It can help to speed up what hartofalyon did.

    Google: "pixel fixer"
