You would get an extra 20-40% performance with the 3080 on raptor lake, I think that was the performance range I saw upgrading from an i9 9900k to 13700k. 3080 is a great card, especially the EVGA ftw as I had one.

    40 % extra performance ? going from i7 10700 to 13700?

Depends on the title, RT games see a good uplift in performance.
However I don't know performance figures between 9900k and 10700, I'm sure there isn't much in it between the 2.

I noticed the same 40% increase going from zen2 to zen4 in games like Spiderman.

Don't expect wonders for 10GB cards after Ratchet & Clank.

Spiderman MM was using 10gb with RT and very high textures.

And R&C is ~11GB without RT and the mighty RTX IO is overloaded with VH textures, which cost performance on Nvidia vs. high textures and Radeon. :D

ratchet and clank uses 9.3 gb of 10 on my system on the 3080 with rt on, fps was good in the 80 and 90s most of the time, very optimized game

11.9gb with RT on so much that 4060ti 16gb is fast as 4070. You can clearly see its spilling into system memory with a 12gb card.

At this point I'd wait for the 14700 as it's supposed to be 20% faster than 13700 in multi threading unless you can get 13700 cheap. It's a really good chip, you just need a decent aio and set voltages manually rather than use auto set by the MB manufacturer.

14700 is 3% faster than 13700 in single thread where it matters.

this is pc related, on my system, no spillage, 9.3gb of 10 , and fps is high

Or not, DS doesn't work correctly with very high textures on Nvidia (much slower vs. high with fast movement) and without DS, it has occasional lazy streaming. This is even true on a 24GB 4090, and I doubt your 10GB make it any better...

Or maybe it's scene dependent and the spot where you checked vram usage requires less of it.

My man, what are you going on about? I have 12700K, 32GB RAM, 2TB 980 Pro. The fact that you post these long but pointless posts doesn't change the fact that TLoU is still a mess, along with most PS5 ports. It's just PC users perception is different, they tend to overlook issues and accept mediocrity. You can see the same with PC users running emulators. They often don't have the means to test games side by side, and just because for example game runs at higher res on emulator, they overlook missing effect or frame pacing issues, etc.

" overlook issues and accept mediocrity "

Brother I just played through FF16 at mostly 720p and lower than 60 fps.

I love my ps5, but if anyone is overlooking issues and accepting mediocrity its that chonker.

I love HFW too, but it launched with a huge issue with the foliage and vegetation that *nearly* every ps5 user told me was my tv. I explained that if I can record the issue on the ps5 its clearly the game and not the display.

Hardly any console users noticed or acknowledged it, then Guerrilla fixed the issue.
    A huge difference afterwards.

If you are talking about shimmering issue then everyone noticed that and it was a huge talking point at that time. So you aren't special. :D
Problem actually wasn't foliage or vegetation, it was bad TAA/upscaling issue. Guerilla fixed it by implementing a better TAA solution.

Not the shimmer, they fixed that in the saturation fix patch early on.

The vegetation had no AA at all, even after speaking to John at DF neither of us thought it would ever be fixed as it required a total rework of the CBR

Fair play to Guerrilla, it took a few months but they put the time into fixing it.
It was the CBR and VRS interaction that needed work, the TAA is a one frame sample pass and wasn't the issue. Also in an attempt to fix it the resolution was lowered and never raised back up

i literally stopped playing the game until this was fixed, Example at 1:50

I'm not sure about 10700 to 13700 (although I would assume it may be similar), but I can tell you that when I went from a 9900K to a 12900KS on my 3090, it also improved gaming performance, especially the minimum framerates by 40-60% in most games and thus they were a lot smoother. So yeah, having a balanced hardware setup can make quite an impact.

I'd assume that upgrading your CPU to 12th/13th/14th gen intel or AMD Ryzen 7xxx series (especially X3D) would give your 3080 a good boost compared to your Intel 10700 as well.
