So i just bought the rig on the right. And now im having problems in CS:Source. or any source engine game. I start the game, and then about every minute or so it locks up for about 10 to 20 seconds, i mean like the graphics lock and the sound repeats. after 20 seconds it goes back to an average of 100 fps!!!! other then when it freezes it works great. I had the card overclocked, but it does it when its normal speed as well. I thought it was the sound card, tried onboard sound and same result. im using the XG 71.84 drivers. I will try supplied drivers to see if that helps.

That's normal with CS:S. My Ultra spikes down to 25 fps on certain maps then back up.

Try adding "-heapsize 512" to the EXE shortcut, without the quotes. This will increase the available memory to 512MB so you should get lesser in-game pauses and almost no stuttering.

Anyway, back to the problem - must be a game issue surely. Source engine means STEAM updates anyone? Lovely

Oh and on another note, I noticed you guys saying that you lagged down to 25 fps or so. Well mine is not only lagging at times, but some times it physically stops, sound and graphics and all, for 30 seconds, and then its normal for a nother 3 minutes or so. ???? again ill try to see if this is only CS.

    Hey Mike,

Could you run 3dmark2k1 with only one gfx card and see if your game FPS actually rise and beat mine? :)

I mean you get 3k more than me but only due to the Nature test, Just doesn't seem right does it.

lol, Yeah, for some reason 2k1 doesnt benifit that much from SLI, not that it really bothers me too much. I think its just down to CPU limitation really. Never ran 2k1 with 1 Ultra. Got 13000 in 2k3 though with one card.

    @nick9871

The heapsize idea is actually right on track, except for a small (or very large) issue. The heapsize is set in bytes, so you have to insert 512000, else your heapsize defaults to 64 mb, which is really little. Also, are you online for the game? Cos after all steam updates are installd, the stuttering should stop. I had the same issue, but the heapsize command took most of it away!

Try changing the latency from 248 to 64

    ok a couple of things.
    1. I changed the heapsize and that helped A LOT
    2. I still get frequent stutters, espsecually when i see the other team
    3. FPS do not seem to drop during these situations, or at least never blow 60
    4. My ping in games is usually around 70, this could be the problem im going to call comcast about this
    5. Temps are as follows under load, CPU: 41 SYSTEM: 43 GPU: 56
    6. Settng all graphics to low in CS did nothing, actually it didnt even increase FPS that much either

Im going to try Splinter Cell right now, and see if i can isolate it to a CS problem.

how do i change my latency?
