Let's see... power saving mode if your phone has it.

absolutely, spare batteries, extended batteries, turn off cell reception unless YOU need it, maybe a solar charger/hand crank

get a gps app where you can download maps in advance, you might need to pay, google navigation/maps wont be sufficient (unless they're released their advance area download stuff recently) because cell reception in the middle of nowhere is understandably crap.

Google Goggles, so you can take a picture of a blade of grass, and google will be able to scan the composition and colour and geo locate you to the nearest mm, and give you an in depth analysis of your surroundings...............

but really as mentioned, ... spare batteries, a decent case, gps with mappacks, compass app....... and maybe a mushroom dictionary etc so you can safely forage for food....

hi just got back from what turned out a 8day trip, i got a real map nd compass but after finding the os map a little time consuming i reverted to a app call back county navigator

    this one
    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.crittermap.backcountrynavigator.license&hl=en

simply as it used gps and told me the direction and location with a simple click without having to get the HUGE os map out in 25+ mph winds and it acting like a large kite

i took a few good images and will upload them once i get them to the pc, but ive not long got back today to im gona rest up
