Hey! I recently upgraded to Win 10 and have since done a fresh/clean install of Win 10 x64 with HDD reformat etc.. Anyway one of my questions is what other net., sdk, direct X, or any other downloads that are good to optimize system with gaming in mind? I just always feel I should add other Direrct X versions or runtimes in my clean install? What is your process to a fresh setup on your RIG? One more question I wonder if new driver versions are the correct way to go with OEM hardware mixed with upgrades or additional hardware cause safe isn't always fast? I am not afraid to try new things it's half the fun to me and getting a few extra FPS isn't going make it any better usually but hey that's the challenge of tweaking! Anyway blah blah blah whats your clean install process in steps or whatever? Thanks!
Installing the latest DirectX is required for many games, even on Windows 10. The downloadable DirectX runtime includes base updates for DirectX on older systems, but importantly for Windows 8.1 and 10 etc, includes what is known as managed DirectX. These are essentially DirectX extensions. The system is a bit messy actually. Instead of making a proper cumulative file, when new extensions were added or altered they put out a file with a different suffix, such as _35, _36, etc. Most games requiring these files will either install DirectX or have the required extension files in their folder, but just in case it is a good idea to install it. As far as .NET framework goes, Windows 10 comes with 4.6, so no version updates yet. The only thing you might want to do is install .NET Framework 3.5 which is under add/remove windows components. As far as drivers go, ideally you run the latest available for all your devices. Don't bother with OEM drivers, they are NOT any better, and are just old versions of drivers from the manufacturer sometimes relabelled. There are some minor exceptions to that, but the exceptions are more the additional things like just a different wifi GUI app for example.
