First of, I would like to say there are alot of smart people on this board. I thought I knew something about a computer when I learned to build one...but of age 20, I still have alot more to learn!!

    But anyways, here goes.

I just got a GeForce FX 5200 256 MB PCI card (ok ok...i have a dell :( and it has no agp slot). I was wondering, what are the best drivers (Whether supported or not, I just need the best ones) out there for this card?

Also, if anyone could just throw in little tidbits of other software I could also download to improve the performance of this card, I'd really appreciate it!

I play games like America's Army and World of Warcraft and only get about 10-20 fps :(

I have plenty of ram...768 DDR mb, and a 2.4 ghz intel celeron.

Can anyone help me improve the perfomance on this thing?

    Thanks!

Go to the video card makers website they should have drivers and software you can download fo your video card. They would have the best drivers and such for your card.

also turn down resolution (800x600), detail, and put the "image settings" (display properties - settings - advanced - geforce5200 - "Performance & QualitySettings") at 'performance' instead of 'quality'.

I've read that the new NGO drivers are very good. The newest version is the 76.50 version. You can download them here on Guru 3D at downloads.guru3d.com.

I installed the 76.5 drivers...and downloaded the pci program to make the latency quicker.

I did notice a good framerate improvement...but at times I still get 10 fps and thats with almost low settings :( Other than that, its fairly good. Thats just with America's Army.

With WoW I get about 40 fps when inside a closed area, but outside and its busy...it drops to about 10-18 fps :(

yeah, the 5200 is still a pretty weak card no matter what you try

Aw that stinks....I picked it up recently only because it was the best PCI card I could find!! I was hoping it would provide better graphic quality than what its showing...because from what I read from all the other reviews, they experienced great graphic change.

Hi Energy, I have a XFX 5700. I would probably say that the 5700 has twice the memory on it as the 5200 and not too much more than the memory as the major difference compared to the 5200. Honestly I am a novice compared to some others with online high end games like some of the FPS. I play Painkiller often and enjoy the game online. What I do not enjoy is getting fragged by someone as I appear. With the never ending rise in top end GPUs it is hard to stay up on your adversary. Yes the 5 series GPUs are outdated, but certainly a nice card for us low end users. :) There are so many factors that video cards differ from. I am sure others can be more explicit and specific with information that I will not mention. A large factor is the FPS (frames per second). If your card cannot speed those frames fast enough you will take longer to appear. Another is the memory. Just like in your pc the GPU has memory too. Now they have DDR3 RAM on the cards and obviously incompared to DDR etc. Just remember every day means a new GPU card on it's way to development.... Good suggestion as I have done so far would be to familiarize with what you have and come back and ask questions as I do. The buds at Guru3D will not look down on you. So ask anything you wish.:) Have a great day.
