I have been struggling with an issue for about a year and it's putting me off gaming.

When I boot up my pc and launch a game the framerate is unplayably low. However, when I update the graphics driver and restart I am back to normal, playable fps. I can then play for hours without issues on a range of games.

Any subsequent restart I am back to unplayable again. If no driver update available I have to uninstall the driver and reinstall.

I have an rx580 and i5 8600k. Plenty of decent RAM and good quality PSU.

I have monitored temperature on cpu and gpu but all normal (plus I have the issue before either has a chance to heat up and I can game for hours after I update).

My last resort is a Windows 10 reinstall but I would like to rule out everything else first (and there's no guarantee that I won't get rid of the issue).

Any ideas? Anyone had something similar?

When you have low FPS is there any unusual activity stealing cpu shown in task manager?

Monitor your temps/clocks and usage while gaming. It will be easier to find out where is the issue when game becomes unplayable.
