Been having trouble sleeping lately, no matter how tired I am, when I try to sleep I just lie there for hours and hours before finally dozing off. Got to the point where I was on prescription sleeping pills just to get to sleep, and now I'm off those, I'm having the same issues. Can't really depend on pills in the long run though, so is there anything I can do to help get to sleep that doesn't involve medicine?
Well my first thought is whats changed to stop you sleeping? Do you find yourself constantly thinking about things? I've always found it pretty easy to just shut off and sleep but occasionally I cant get off and I do find reading helps me alot when that happens. The other common thing is eating healthily and not too late.
Do a triathlon.....go home........have a big meal.......watch boring tv.........and sleep *clicks fingers*
Well it first started when I got a stomach bug, then I just couldn't sleep when that had gone, so I resorted to sleeping tablets. Other than that it seems my brain just won't shut off at night, just random thoughts floating through my head. I've tried reading and that doesn't seem to help at all. I try and eat as healthily as I can. Even vigorous exercise doesn't seem to knock me out like it used to.
Self medication is no cure for insomnia. Particularly if the cause is stress, anxiety or otherwise neurologically related. See your doctor who will refer you, if required, to a sleep specialist. Guru3D is no substitute for professional medical advice.
I have the same problem sometimes... I always find myself thinking aobut 10 things at once when im tryn to fall asleep.. One easy way is to think "black" Keep thinking the thought of black.. Not the word. But black as in space nothingness.. That helps with the running thoughts... 2nd thing would be to find a sauna or a steam room.. go sweat for a good half hour 45 min about an hour before you go to bed... Never watch tv and do not play games or be on th computer for at least a hour before you go to bed.. Read the paper, book, or something of that matter... I never take any meds ever... Its just not good for you for one, and for 2 once you get use to using them for everything its hard to not do anything without them... IE sleep, allergies, headache, and such..
Personally, I prefer to think of things inside of other things. Like worm inside an apple inside a tree inside a forest inside a continent. It helps me when my mind races. Or you can count sheep. But to me, it sounds stress related.
Read in bed it will tire your eyes out. Don't use the PC or watch TV before bed they are too mentally stimulating. Don't drink caffeine or eat sugary foods even up to 3 hrs before bed. Good luck its a tough issue... if it persists see a doctor
That was the first thing I tired... Some good suggestions from other folks though, thankings, i'll give 'em a go.
You'll definitely want to make sure your environment is completely dark while you sleep as well. If you're really concerned about it, and want to try to be really extreme about it, for an hour or two before you want to sleep, don't use the computer or cell phone, cover or turn off all the lights, LEDs, etc in your house, and use the dimmest possible light to get around if you must. All the artificial light we have in our lives really affects the body's natural tendency to rest when there is no light, and wake once we can see again.
Seek medical advice from your Doctor, but in the mean time try Chamomile Tea. Been there myself just about 3 months ago, could not get a solid nights sleep for like 3 weeks. It sucks and takes its toll on you mentally and physically. Luckily I did get over it with only taken over the counter sleep aids.
Exercise. Simple and works. If you aren't sweating and beathing heavily after the workout you haven't worked out and you need to do more. Then shower, eat, brush your teeth, lie down and read a book or watch a movie. You'll be a sleep in no time.
Exercise or work more hours... got the job done for me. Back when I was in college or unemployed I had massive insomnia. Ever since I got a job working 6 days a week at times, I just fall asleep instantly. Sometimes you just have to much energy and you need to channel it somewhere to tire you out enough.
I remember Insomnia! I have the cure for you. Your mind is racing, you are thinking, imagining things, what-ifs etc... focus on the thing you are thinking about, imagine yourself when you were younger, doing something with friends, now add a song to it. If you have ever noticed, when you are about to fall asleep, the music or "sound-track" going along with what you are doing in your semi-asleep state gets louder and louder. there you have it. envision a good time, now think of a song, as it gets louder, you are about to fall asleep. works for me every night !
a triathlon every day! wow! that certainly would work.. 4 mile run or a couple of hours in gym followed by some booze. stay off the coffee at night. yeah being hungry at night can keep you up! p.s lots of sex.
