    Hey,

I have my Phenom 9500 running well on an AM2 slot motherboard, but I'm just using the stock AMD heatsync. Sometimes the fan runs extremely hard. Are there any suggestions for coolers for the Phenom?

Friz, I'm using the Zalman 9700 with Arctic silver 5 and I absolutely love it. Getting 26°C during idle and 35°C on load when gaming/benchmarking etc. The heatsink comes with a fan speed adjuster and I keep it around 1690 rpm so it's virtually quiet.

Took your advice and got the Zalman 9700. Got it and installed today, nice and quiet, never seems to get over 1700 RPM under full load, and temp never reaches 40C. :)

Thanks for the advice guys. :)

does the 9700 require a diff backplate for AM2 setups? i've made it a point to not buy a HSF that won't use the stock clips after losing them from 2 previous $40 ones...

I am running the Phenom 9600 with the AC Freezer64 PRO and get the same
temps as i did with the stock HSF about 39-40c at idle.

    It uses the same backplate.

You don't need to change anything on the motherboard, just attach the Zalman clip to the existing bracket. :)
