One of the 5870 vapor-x's sold on ebay for over 600 dollars I do believe. 5850 vapor-x would be exactly what I want, but the availability issue is just absurd right now.

not unlocked to 5870, but flashed to unlocked 5870 bios :
    That one :

That gives you nothing more than higher default speeds and 200-300mhz higher ram clocks due to more relaxed latencies ;)

Does anyone know when these cards will be available next? I bought one in october and I'm looking to xfire with another, probably early next year.

My last question is does the brand matter for Xfire? I have a Sapphire 5850 and if I couldn't find another Sapphire, would it work with say a HIS/XFX/MSI/ASUS 5850?

i would stick to the same brand. if i go xfire 5870's my other will be an asus or nothing else.

i could be wrong and am not basing this on any facts just my own way of doing things. :)

Shouldn't be a problem, the only thing different between the 5850's is the sticker on the card.

Except for the asus ofc, which has the voltage control.

thats just using the software voltage control like MSI afterburner does though

i believe the asus bios allows for higher voltage increases than the bios on most other cards tho.

I'm gonna have another go at overclocking now that the 9.11's are out.

Is furmark good for testing stability? How long do you keep it running before concluding your clocks are stable?

Weeell, I'm sensitive, since all my other components are really quiet, it just makes the card stand out. It's the only thing making noise in my rig. I think it's completely unbearable when it revs to like 30%, so I have to keep it under that at all times = slightly higher temps then I'd like.

Damn, I'm getting the white dots in Crysis as well. And the 9.11's are no go for me as the anisotropic filtering is terribly bugged in those drivers.....

The problem is that the DX9 mode in Crysis is artifacting so much it isn't playable (only flashing triagles)

All the other games I've tested run flawless: Dragon Age, Stalker Clear Sky, Risen, Fallout 3, Dead Space, Drakensang, Mass Effect: all without artifacts. Furmark runs fine as well..... any tips?

And another question: is my HD5850 performing lower than it should be?
In the High preset of Vantage I get around 8800 points (GPU) and on the performance I get around 12500. This is around 1000-2000 points slower than in most reviews I've read. Is this just because of my CPU? (@3ghz) I did get way lower CPU scores in 3Dmark06 in windows 7: 4100 instead of the 4750 I got in windows XP, might that have something to do with it?

My gpu score in vantage was 15k stock and 16.5 with a small overclock with P setting

Since your CPU is dual-core I'd expect at least the same score. Especially since the 5770 is somewhat slower than the 5850 (even though yours is clocked higher)

    ah, phew :p

But still, I'd expect something higher.....I'm still trying to figure out why my CPU score in 3dmark06 is way lower in windows 7 though. Any ideas on that? Thanks in advance.

thats random, considering windows 7 bumped up my cpu score in everything.

windows experience index went from 6.3 to 7.4, vantage went from 8000 to 13000, etc. made me think windows 7 was more efficient at utilising cpu cores.
