What a surprise (not)..........It looks like an HD4870. Ho hum, indeed...
GPU-Z shot lol
it seems longer to me.
Cooler looks the same... But yeah, like Kylzer said, does seem longer.
The HD4890 supposedly has a different pin layout so it won't work in HD4870 PCBs, so we can assume that's a new PCB, that's possibly longer.
Anyone know how its performance will be? What card from Nvidia will be it's main competitor?
GTX275 i think.
looks like the GPU-Z doesn't regconize this gpu yet. Look at its reading. Lololol. .
The one thing that annoys me with 4800 series cards is that ATI insists on putting the PCIe connectors on end of the card instead of on the top back corner. It would make fitting a longer card into the average case a lot easier. I agree with Kyle as well, this is a longer card than a 4870. 850/975? 3900 effective on the memory is nice.
Well said ...
Agree on the connectors, but it's a tiny flaw I'm not much bothered by.
GPU-Z screenshot was almost completely useless except for the clocks.
I think what is going to be most interesting about these cards is to see if they have extra OC headroom, or if these are just maxed out 4870s.
i might upgrade to that beast
I hope they consider a 4890x2 version. Could be a nice card to last us till the next new generation. Maybe even take complete control of the performance crown?
There are some rumours about shader optimizations.
I just wish both Nvidia and Ati would start using larger slower RPM fans on their cards...
I as well hope there is some OC headroom for these chips as opposed to being "prodigy" 4870 chips. IE binned ones.
I'm drooling at the possibility of breaching 1GHz on the GPU in XFire. I can hit 950 on the GPU with the palit 4870 alone. The Saph 4870 -non reference cooler- has always run hotter and ran into troubles past 920-933 in single card testing. I settled into the clocks on the left for these 2 cards in my XFire setup and have no issues. I'm pleased with the results but man I have 2 problems now:
1. Where can I get 2 4890s near Toronto Canada and WHEN!? -new stuff seems to show up around where I live after launch date, very rarely on it-
2. Who can I pawn err....sell at a discounted rate to a friend just cuz I'm a nice guy, my4870s to?
LOL I wonder if theres a medical term \ condition detailing the incessent need to acquire new technology and fly it apart? lol
EDIT: Alternate possibility.... aquire 4890s and Xfire them to my 4870-s- if possible... should be since they are in the same generation \ series. It just has to work.... I need a black board and a lab coat...I already have the mad scientist \ Beaker -muppets- hairdo :stewpid:
EDIT EDIT: DAMMIT! :bang: MSI X48C only has 2 PCI-X slots... my previous boards had more and were from the Green side of the fence. oh well... I still need those 4890s......and the black board
Ouch, 128bit bus, gona be crippled.
That thing is as big as my 3870x2. LOL I thought we were living in the age of micro technology. 4890x2? Now that would be a big PCB.
From what I hear, they didn't increase the clock that much. This card has no place to reside on the market whatsoever.
I'v heard its a tweaked core with higherclocks.
It also reads no memory. I don't think GPUZ is reading it right.
