Thats pretty cool. Guess any Portal fan would love to get their hands on one of them.

Wonder if he'll start making them and selling them? Probably make some bank off that.

If he does, she'll complain that she isn't special.

If he doesn't, he's missing out on, quite literally, 10s of thousands of dollars.

so i emailed the guy about the comission and this is what he said:

Hey Igor, thanks for your interest.

Typically I don't toss a mass-response to emails about my work, but seeing as
how I've gotten so many emails about the Portal Gun since it hit Kotaku,
Joystiq, Engadget, Stumble, and all the other blogs, this seems to be the
easiest way to respond to all of the questions about it.

The gun cost roughly $350 in materials, and took around 1 month to complete
(over the course of several months working on and off on it)
There are no sound effects, but it does light up in both Orange and Blue. Its
powered by a single 9V battery.
Progress pictures for those looking to build their own can be found here:
    http://www.cosplay.com/gallery/127408/
I *can* build more of these things, but there's a couple of issues with that.
#1 is that they take a LONG time and its not really profitable, and #2 is that
the more of them I build, the less special the one I built for Emily (my girlfriend
who commissioned this from me) becomes. She paid for all materials on the
first one. I would anticipate that if I were to produce these for others, I
would only build maybe 2 or 3 more at most, and they would cost around
$800-$1100 (depending on what the client would want. I have had one
person ask for additional circuitry for sound effects, and another who would
like the gun but without any wiring) I know that seems steep, but there is
easily 150 hours of work in this, and even at $3.00 an hour, I'd still be taking
a loss. This thing was more sculpture than anything else.
I was anticipating taking 1 or 2 commissions for other replicas, then maybe
donating the last one the the Child's Play auction held by Penny Arcade if
they're interested. No, I haven't contacted them on this yet.
Yes, I do take commissions for other props. Currently I have 6 of such
commissions in the works, and an currently booked until mid-September.
Currently there is only one gun. I may make more if people are genuinely
    interested.
The gun weighs about 15 pounds. Its rather heavy. Its also "scaled" to fit a
person 5' in height. It would look a little small on someone who is 6' tall, and I
even have a bit of trouble fitting my hand into the rear stock. Keep in mind, it
was made for small girl hands. Final dimensions: 22" long (with claws) 10" tall
    (again, claws) and 7" wide.
I could ship to the UK... it would most likely be pretty pricey, and customs
would FLIP if they scanned this thing. Essentially, its covered in wires,
circuits, and there's an acrylic dynamite-stick-shaped rod in the middle of it...
I'm not sure how smoothly that would go over via post.
If you'd like to see higher-rez images, I can send or post to an FTP. I have
TONS of pics of the build process. I'm used to building a lot of custom things
and usually forget how I did it. I think I have over 500 pictures of the
assembly process, if the shots in the link above arent enough for you.
The wiring schematic is available in .ai or .pdf format, if anyone wants to
    know how that was done

If you have any other questions or requests, please let me know. Again,
thanks for all the praise and questions regarding this, its truly awesome to
know that my work is as appreciated as this!
