Is Trump letting you in? Be prepared for attitude. I don't know how the U.K is, but people in the U.S are pricks. Any time I run into someone from another country who moved here or is visiting for a while, they're always thrown off by how fast everyone moves here doing things "why are you guys always rushing?" and how rude everyone is. Both are accurate. So prepare for that sort of thing. Don't tell ANYONE you don't have to that you're new here when it comes to salesman, etc. They'll see you as a sucker and try to take advantage of you, especially with buying a car! Watch what you eat. We have too many convenient fast food places and you're likely to gain weight if you don't watch yourself. Congrats on the job. Hope it works out. Maryland is a pretty quiet state in comparison to others. You should be alright. If it were New York or Chicago, I'd say just stay in the U.K lol. Maryland has generally nicer people, but you'll still notice a difference. We don't have free porn on regular tv like you guys. Bring a laptop.
He wants to eliminate work visas entirely. He wants US companies to only hire unqualified US citizens.... There's a reason Tech companies are fighting this administration...lol You really should pay attention to what's actually happening in the world... Travel ban is only for Muslims... You can lump the entire state of Virginia in there.... I've met nicer people from New York and Chicago....
Choice is always nice. I have an option between Verizon and Cox Comm....unless I want business class, which is slower and costs considerably more money.
When y'all 2 liberals have a spare bedroom I got an immigrant that needs a place to stay. Put your money where your mouth is or stfo!/ left-wing loon's F**king CNN left wing Hippocrates!...
Liberals are the reason we have rights in this country. If it was up to your "conservative" buddies, there would only be 2 classes. The insanely rich, and the poor. Just look at the crap they keep proposing. Huge cuts to medicaid. A health care bill that will take insurance away from 20+ MILLION people. Huge tax breaks for the wealthy (top 1%), with tax increases for everyone else. A shift back to "trickle down economics", which screwed up the economy under Reagan. Wiping out every social program, including social security (which every American pays into, but won't get their money back from if "conservatives" ever manage to get rid of it). Hell, "conservatives" even believe that education is BAD for the country.... Liberals aren't really any better... Proposing an increase in minimum wage to $15/hr... I mean, sure, it sounds good. The problem is the fact that prices of EVERYTHING will increase to offset the wage increase. Millions of small "mom and pop" type stores would go belly up.... Socialists want to "socialize" everything....which only works in theory. Some things can be "socialized" while others can't. At least Liberals and Socialists are willing to work together, unlike Conservatives who believe that only their opinions and beliefs matter, while they refuse to work with or even listen to anyone else. Pull your head out of your back side and look at something other than Faux news. You can't really be THAT ignorant...
Education is bad when one tries to manipulate people. Education also allows one to be called out for talking out their backside (only directed at the Government).
True, but some conservatives want to restrict education as much as possible. They're too stupid to figure out that in the long term, it would be devastating to the country. Of course, Obama pushed education, environment and health care....and Conservative Republicans are intent on undoing everything Obama did, good or bad.
That is part of the reason I tell my kids to forget set aside how they are currently being taught math. I am appalled that any kind of memorization is looked at negatively. Neither of them were exposed to the multiplication table from 1 to 12, laid out as a grid in class. How can one do math in their head quickly if that is not memorized. Wife and I show them how we were taught so they can make a decision for themselves, what works best.
I didn't think we were calling you names but when someone disagrees with you were loons and Trump won get over it etc.. Not one single substantive thought of your own just spouting Fox and Trump talking points like they're the second coming the only thing missing is Amen at the end of your sentences. You're the poster child of Trump supporters. I'm out twit.
Congrats at being able to escape, and thank you for not coming here illegally. You can find cheap cars on places like craiglist, letgo, or you can try cars.com, which is mostly dealers, which are more expensive. AT&T and Comcast will screw you over. Don't watch the TV news here, it's just as bad as over there. Cars are cheaper here, and you may find that you may find it perfectly legal to own cars not legal over there. You may want to find a Credit Union where you will be moving to do your banking, as the big banks apparently screw people over. We still use 120V for our electric home grid, so you'll have to get the 240V to 120V adapters. Hopefully as our 100 year old infrastructure slowly upgrades, it will move to 240V. Most people are *******s here.
Thanks for all the helpful comments. My visa isn't sorted yet, they just offered me the job recently. They flew me over last month for a visit to the facility, interview, meet the team etc. It's a branch of government I'll be working for, R&D, so I'm assuming they know what they are doing visa wise (hopefully). They don't actually hire foreign nationals normally, so a lot of consideration has gone into making the position for me. Yes I'm starting to sell my things as well. For stuff I want to take, there's a few companies that come to your house and pack things up. They do the customs forms etc for you. It's probably expensive, but the place I'm going to work for is paying moving costs. Rig wise, I think I'll just take my drives and build new over there. Was toying with the idea of building something really compact and packing it in luggage, not sure how airport security would treat that...
Take your processor and memory on top of the drives at least. Expensive and small things. Saves cost over there
Have you decided which gun you will be getting yet? I heard it was mandatory to be safe over there? I'm going over with the family next month, should I hire 2 guns for me and my wife or will 1 be enough?
^good one. The Wild West is 3,000 miles away on the other side of the continent. East Coast is high society and snobbery. Traveling south is where one finds the famous Southern Hospitality, Gentlemanly Charm. Outside of stereotypes, it's all a melting pot.
I personally keep my AKM with a loaded mag of hollow points within arms reach at all times. I think you'll be fine with just one gun as long as you get a rifle. Pistols aren't as good, so you may need two. Also guys, we're done with the politics talk. That's a complete derailment of OP's thread. He wants advice on moving over and adjustment, not a political discussion. Don't make me start handing out infractions; just drop it now.
