I need need to get one of those Xeon chips. [hwbot] 8.814 - i7 920 @ 4662MHz on ss | 3x2Gb ocz 16000 @ 886 [/hwbot]
[hwbot] 8.672 - 3520 @ 4664MHz | 3x2Gb gskill 16000 5,5,5,20 stock air [/hwbot] there not that great drouge get some better memory or a dfi, I have a lot of probs getting this thing in to the 220's needed 1.6v to get this sucker over 220 way too much voltage on air thats it for me till i get a phase ill end up frying this sucker if im not carefull :3eyes:
nice going phroze and drouge , bet you weren't looking at temps phroze with 1.6 volt going in , better not knowing m8
I bet he couldn't take his eye's of it. :eek3: Guess what I fried this morning at 1.65v, that's right. Had to run down to Fry's (local PC hardware shop) this morning to get another 920 D0. New D0 same as the old D0, nothing to write home about. I'm done for a while, until I get an unlocked Xeon. Then I will be making another sweep through the benches. phrozin, did you try a higher pcie freq, 115 to 120 for higher bclk? Worked for me.
ouch !, sorry to hear about that m8,it shows that these chips aren't super hardy, do you run it on phase 24/7 , i have an ss but just hook it up for the day but run on h20 24/7, hope to have my i7 m'board and cpu in next day or two but i'll watch it on the voltage definitely now on a different note you are obviously into your bikes looking at your avatar, i went to the motogp at donnington on sunday , first time , absolutely brilliant, casey stoners ducati is the loudest thing on earth , if satan had a motorbike that would be it absolutely awesome sound
Lol i've had my E8500 @ 1.65v and it hit 80c, but it did not fry! thats also why its not stable @ 4Ghz 1.3v anymore... its getting cold again so i might try for 4.7 again! fry's electronics is a good store actually, i use to live farely close to them. really cool store as i remember, have not been there in a long time.
Ummm - nice name Frys... 1. "Hey I bought a cpu" <<<<< WIN! 2. "nice- where from?" 1. "Fry's Components" <<<<<<< FAIL.
Just took it off phase until I get something better, back on my TRUE black lapped for 24/7. 4.2GHZ@1.3V. I used to have my QX9650 on phase 24/7 @4950MHz and 1.8vcore, it was and still is a beast. Ran it that way for two years and saw very little degradation. And yes, I love my 07 R1, I'm on it every day. 1000cc of fuel injected adrenaline, has a power commander with custom fuel mapping, a timing module and full titanium/carbon fiber exhaust, Pazzo shorty levers, Michelin Pilot Power 2 tires blah blah blah. Yeah i'm really into it. I like watching Stoner, Rossi and Hayden working it out. Awesome stuff. Yes Pillmonster, I failed. But Fry's came through. It does sound ironic and funny. Push it MM10X, that's why we watch these threads and participate. Pushing the limits.
Well, 80C is HOOTT but so many people are worried about seeing past 60-65C even for a short 1M run which really isn't an issue for such a brief amount of time. Especially since these modern high performance CPU's are in the teens and single digit 1M Pi times now.
yeah i hated to push anything last 70c, i really wanted 4.6. these C0's just dont like overclocking. i was trying to hit single digit. maybe if i push the ram to 1050, or even 1100.
Could have pushed it alot further.. Probably do that when I have a little more time. Already at 1.504 volts though and each core sitting under 40
interesting no i didnt dont know if vid will like that too much but still getting my head around the new rig (been awile lol), ouch 1.65, mine wont boot much over 1.6 way too much on air sys temps are amost hitting 100deg sh!t dont think this thing will go much more on h2o either so havent bothered, phase is the way to go thing run pretty hot @ stock. glen missis will kill me if i toast much more lol done in a motherboard 1 vid card and a psu so far, as far as im concerned its part of ocing so you toast a few things sh!t women just dont get it hey :bang:
Well you know how the omelet's and broken eggs saying goes.. I've managed to kill 2 CPU's myself..not from overvolting though.. One died in a puff of smoke after I powered it up without the HS/F....
yeh i bet you forgot what an expensive hobby overclocking is i haven't bothered much recently but got the bug again just waiting for i7 chip and motherboard turning up got rest of stuff, been playing with one of the 4890 cards i'm impressed with them very nice full psycho spec ,mate of mine has the r1 engine ...................but its in a mini :wanker:,
It was an Athlon XP Socket A. I was a bit of a noob back then and didn't realise that AMD CPU's lacked thermal protection. I only powered it up for about 10secs......
