I'm certain its the latter since games aren't really taking off using it.

I recall seeing an article where Nvidia stated they focused less on direct compute and more on raw in game GPU performance with Kepler.

$500 for the GK104 is fine by me, it sure is a better deal than the XFX HD 7970 BE DD that I bought for $600 which was as slow as an HD 6950 on BFBC2 multi-player and not considerably faster than an my OC'd GTX 580 on BF3.

Not to trash the 7970, it did amazingly well on games I do not like.

Nothin new there man...people sold there gtx 480s for 300 dollars just to buy a 500 dollar gtx 580 that was not really all that much faster. Atleast the GK110 will far out perform the gk104 to warrant the upgrade.

Good review, as always! I have to say I expected this card to be much faster than it is. I was ready to buy one or two but after looking at the scores its nothing amazing. 680 has to be the mid range card, comparable to my 470SC+'s when they came out. I'm scoring P10647 in 3d mark 11, that's higher than the OC 680 shown in the reviews. Sad really.. Looks like I'll have to wait till end of year when they release the true successor to the 580. I want to buy 2, but in my case it looks as if it would be a waste of money for me to purchase the 680's. But I do have PCIE 2.0 on my motherboard I think. If I had PCIE 3.0 on a motherboard would it offer a nice increase in FPS?

Great review as always! I have my order placed and the cards should arrive tomorrow.

I hope they do something with Metro and Crysis 2 on a driver update. I'm sure it can do better in those and maybe a couple of others.

Any news on whether these new cards will support 1080p 3D @60hz for those who game on large screen tvs? Frame packing method or something?

I think with driver updates there will be nice improvements with many of the newer games, incl crysis 2. But not optimistic they can improve much on metro and crysis 1/WH since these are older games which they know inside out and are likely to have spent many months, even years trying to improve on with little headway.

My POV GTX 680 has just been delivered by City Link just as I was about to leave for work! Damn, today is going to be a real drag now and I can't pull a 'sickie' either as my colleagues at work know I was getting the card today. :(

Is it just me ot nVIDIA did price their flasgship cheaper than AMD? Thumbs-up nVIDIA

As far as raw performance is concerned, AMD and nVIDIA flagship cards are pretty similar and I think the FPS differences fall right inside the benchmarks error range.

Anyways, I'm not upgrading my card(s) yet but, the way things are going (look at those Kepler perf/watt racios  ), nVIDIA cards will be in my radar, that's for sure. :)

I paid extra for guaranteed next-day deliver before 10:30am though for an extra £9. There was a more expensive (£13) option before 9am but I got mine at 8:45am anyway! :D
