In the US the GTX 470 is cheaper.

470 is $350-370 compared to 5870 being $400-420 in the US.

We know you really mean 5870 being $400-420.

    Single GPU idle of 76c!

That's just not good at all.

I don't remember the last time vsync did work properly, or any other settings for that matter. The only way I get things working is by forcing the settings with nHancer and sometimes with extra files for nHancer (required for Mass Effect).

    Edit:
76c idle because it turns its fan to zero while idle? That's retarded! :bang:

Well i got my 5870 today and am sending it straight back.

Dont get me wrong it pushes some great fps but the catalyst interface, lack of native physx, cuda, 3d vision meant i prefered gaming on my GTX 275.

So i'll either keep that or see what people are saying about the GTX 480 in a couple of weeks when theyre out there

I hadnt thought about it as i've had nvidia cards for some time and knew i could still get physx through the hack. But i just prefered the card i had, institutionalised maybe! Probably didnt help ive been playing just cause 2 (CUDA) all week.

As i said its a good card but im gonna stick with what i have until i see more on the 480... and if not that whatever revision comes next

Maybe you didn't watch the video or read the article properly. This extended review is not an endorsement of the 480, it just highlights the fact that there are major heat issues.

    Of course i read it.

As you can see (or could have, as they've updated the review with this as well now), its quite a bit different to what they said then about the sound/temps, so obviously Nvidia were not happy, and so have had words :)

I don't think so - you're entitled to your opinion though. He sounds like he's just telling it like it is.

It's a very fair test using an average case and it confirms HardOCP's original findings : There are serious heat issues (76c idle on a single GPU for example with video to prove his claim).

How this helps Nvidia or infers that Nvidia has somehow bribed HardOCP into writing a more positive evaluation is beyond me

Well in the review they said this (amongst other things) :-

"The only thing that "blew us away" was the heat coming out of the video card and the sound of the fan", and they also made a reference of it to the 5800's.

    Now they saying :-

Its NOT a 5800 (notice their usage of capitals for the word NOT), the temps are fine if you have a decent case, and theres nothing wrong with the fan.
