I got a problem with my Guild Wars game. I upgraded from Windows 2000 to Windows Vista 32 bit and now my performance is very low 14 FPS where I have normally 45-60 FPS). I already tried many things:

    * New drivers from nVidia. Even the latest ForceWare 158.18
    * Various compatibility modes
    * Used ATITool to check if the card goes into 3D mode at game launch =>> it does

When I go back to Win 2000 it runs fine again. There seems to be a small random chance that it starts fine, then the FPS is good again but when I switch map it goes to low performance again. Disabling sound does not help so it's not sound related.

    System specs:
GeForce 7800 GT 256 MB (Non OC)
    AMD Athlon 64 x2 4800+ (Non OC)
2 GB PC3200 DDR SDRAM (Non OC)
Asus A8N-SLI (nForce 4 SLI chipset)
    Soundblaster X-FI Extreme Music

Any clues how I can solve this?

save yourself the headache and create a dualboot system. Vista shouldn't really be used for gaming just right now. its been a hit or miss with performance

Unfortunately, Wizard is right, dualboot's the way to go right now. I had Vista x64 on a different HD, but I found little use for it right now, so I deleted it. I'll be making the leap to Vista once I have a DX10 game in my hand!

The strange thing is, when I run 3DMark06 I get decent performance, just a few 3DMarks less than in 2000. Nothing as dramatic as I'm experiencing in Guild Wars. 14 fps instead of 45 isn't just a minor drop.

Yes, I can dual boot or get back to 2000. But that's not where I got Vista for. It needs to work here as well. (Isn't it?)

I'm running 100.65 Vista Drivers and GW runs about 90% as fast as it did on XP. I get very playable FPS with the 100.65 drivers, never any lockups or bsods. This is on a 6800gt, btw.

You can also try drivers from tweaks rus.com
But the performance is quite far behind still, compared to XP.
Obviously for a few games, it has been fixed 100% so it runs even better than in XP.
I got a higher score in vista 32bit for CS Source, but all other games.. worse or alot worse.
Its about optimization and as it is now, nvidia seems to having a 200 day holiday.
