Some won't recommend this, but I'd say if you want power on the ultra cheap, find a used R9 280X, try to find one that wasn't used for mining.

You'll be paying $140 more or less for a card that outperforms the 960, 280, 285, 380, and matches or beats the 380X (which is bizarre for whatever god damned reason) in most things.

That's what I did when my GTX 560 Ti died, and it was awesome, especially given how cheap it was. But I eventually replaced that with a GTX 970.

Same deal with a 7970 Ghz Edition. The R9 280X is a rebadge of that, and sometimes you can find those even cheaper than a 280X!

This ^^^^ is also a nice suggestion, to buy used 7950/7970/280/280X, but... But it's really hard to tell if those used cards were abused/raped by 24/7 mining for months or even years. The fact is that lots of those cards were used for mining in past few years when the mining-hype was on it's top and buying some of those from someone unknown via eBay or similar sites is a risky thing. If you find some of those and you know the owner (if you sure he wasn't used that card for mining) or the seller has a perfect/high reputation then go for it.

Why don't you check S/B/T section here at G3D if some trusted guru here has something to offer?

Get a 960 4g bare minimum if you are going Green.

Not a bad idea. 280X is going around 200$ atm and it outperforms 960 while keeping up with 380X.

Only problem that Tahiti cards are big and power hungry. My Vapor-X have two 8 pins power connectors with 250W tdp, lol.

    Pfft.

Did you really ask peoples opinions only to ignore them? Many werent suggestions.... we were telling you what you should do. You didnt listen.

If 20 Euro on top of what you would have paid for the GTX 950 for a GTX 960 was too much for you, I would honestly find another hobby. You just made a huge mistake IMO.

256 extra CUDA cores and another 2gb RAM for 20 euro more? Horrible choice, I'm sorry to be so blunt.

Take that card BACK and get the 960. Again. 20 euro is NOT a make or break situation when dealing with the expensive machines we do. Thats what? Half a day of work for the average person over there?

i took the 950 for 160 euros, the gtx 960 with 4 gb have here 250 euro for +10 % perfomance no thnks

Also i read that the 960 in gaming cant use over 2 gb ram. I read a lot of reviiews and with +30% perfomance iam happy. In all next games the 950 is a gtx 760. In older titles gtx 760 have 2-3 fps better but next gen matters.

I doubt very much it was only 20 euros more for the 960 4gb... and 20 euros in Greece is not chump change as $20 dollars are in NA. With overclocking he gets better performance than the stock 960 and 4gb are a waste for this chip, thing can´t provide good framerates when using that amount of memory anyway.

Gtx950 will do the trick until proper 4gb entry level cards are released.

Ps.- 90 extra euros for the 9604gb, no way.

my card is overclocked and with so small temps in all games that i tried is running always with turbo boost above 1300 mhz.
in dragon age i played at 1600x900 low preset. and now i play at medium preset +20 fps

Most can do around 1500mhz on the core and 1850mhz on the memory no problem and give you 10/15% more performance.

Btw prices around here for these are cards are ridiculous as well, $51 USD difference between the cheapest 950 and the cheapest 2gb 960, for real:

    http://www.pcaccesorios.com.mx/deta...-2GB-GDDR5-128bits-GV-N960OC-2GD,3601,4,2.htm

$80usd more if I want the cheapest 4gb 960

Relax dude, if OP is happy with performance increase with 950 over 570 then I don't see why you're complaining. That 950 he has isn't even pushed to the max with OC and OP is right now happy with obviously better fps. Don't forget about 950's much lower temps and power efficiency, also much less noise compared with 570. And he is gaming at 1600x900, 2GB of VRAM is more than enough for that resolutuon. Seems to me that here on G3D you take all decision made by other guru's way too personally.

    OP, enjoy your new card...

Be realistic man, he bought a 950 for 160€ while 960 4GB is no where to be found under 250€. Its around the same price as 380X.

For his 720p monitor, 950 will be enough.

While I would not take the extreme approach that nexxusting took, I do understand where he came from. Many threads tend to be opened just for OP to validate themselves, ignoring all advice to the contrary. Pretty much everyone here was suggesting to go for a card other than the 950, even if it's not the 960, but the OP pretty much ignored all advice and just went for the card anyway. That is a waste of everyone's time.
