Alright I'm considering upgrading my GTX260 as my card is more or less dead... it shows artifacts while running anything 3D.

I want a decent jump in performance without breaking the bank. I was thinking the GTX470, but I haven't been able to find any sites that really have benchmarks comparing the GTX260 & GTX470.

I assume this would be a decent upgrade... but anyone know of any benchmarks that compare the two?

It would be decent upgrade. I went from 275 to 470. It's about 18-20% faster based the 3D Mark Vantage. So for you, it'd probably be around 30% increase with DX11. It's very nice to OC. I have it OC @712,1425,1725 and it's about 30% faster than 275.

Also read here where someone bought a supposedly "dead" 260 real cheap only to find it ran fine on his rig.

So be sure your card is really dead if thats the reason you're upgrading. Test it in another PC or something.

That was me - and it's true the 'faulty' card is now paired with my old gtx260 and running perfectly in sli :)... now i bought the card intending to try the baking trick but obviously i didn't need to do that - if your gtx260 is really artifacting then it might be worth baking it in the oven for a while - the theory is that cards can fail due to weak soldering and baking reflows the bad joints....

You consider that a decent upgrade?! Interesting.

Well EVGA finally approved my RMA, so I'm gonna exchange my GTX260. Hopefully they will send me a GTX275 or something.

My GTX260 is fine really... I'd rather wait for the next revision of Fermi anyway.

Very good choice .. I thing prices of 470 is still too high , wait for 465 (or u can go for red).. And 275 is lot better performer than 260 .. Good luck mate .. :)

yes. 30% increase. dx11 eye candy. bfbc2 looks great. future drivers will make it better. batman aa w/ high physx. couldn't get good fps w/ physx on with 275 on batman aa.

3d mark is dx10 bench so doesn't count too much.

Bad Company 2 on my GTX 260 216 was bad. Bad Company 2 in DX11 4xaa and everything on even HBao was great. It was superior and smoother with much higher IQ (couldnt use most of those settings with the GTX 260). Thing OCs like a massive beast too, with the stock cooler. Cant even imagine it if i water cooled or slapped on a better cooler.

    I managed to get a GTX 470 as a replacement for my RMA'd GTX 280 ^_^
And it made quite a bit of a difference.

Personally I would buy it. Unless you are really that strapped for cash, wait.

Thats pretty sweet RMA a 280 receive a 470. Must have made your day.

Well they sent me a GTX260 Core 216 for an RMA... I'm gonna stick with that for a while, it pushes everything at 1680x1050 just fine for the most part.

I'm buying a condo, so I'm sure I'll need that money for something else. lol
