    Hi dudes,

I was wondering if it's worth buying a Nvidia GTX460 1G in order to change my GTX260 SP216 bought one year ago.
    I've got a Code 2 Quad at 2,83GHz and 4 Gigas RAM.

    Thanks :)

I think so, im planning on doing the same a couple of months when some new games come out, i would try and give the CPU a small overclock to feed the 460 abit more though.

I agree with Copey, see if you can squeeze some more from your CPU. Must admit the GTX460 looks like the card to have in terms of price / performance. I'm interested even though, tbh, I don't need it. Bloody upgrade fever again :bang: must keep it under control :)

I have two GTX260 216SP and want them replaced. Don't think two GTX 460's is my answer, instead I'm waiting for more cards built on GF104 chip... I'd want one single gpu card more powerful than GTX 480 (call it GTX 485 if you like) and a dual gpu still stronger than SLI GTX 460 1GB.

Q4 this year ATI releases HD6000 series....who knows, those GF104 cards could be released Q4, named GTX 500 series..

rumors: GF104 dual gpu card exists already http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?p=4472678#post4472678

If you already have 2 then dont sell them, like you said wait until the dual 470,480 gpu comes out or the 512 sp's version.

    I'm in the same situation... I have a GTX260 Core 216 @ 756Mhz Core / 1250Mhz Ram.

I kinda want some more performance, but want a bigger jump than the GTX460 offers. I thought about a GTX470, but the power & heat kinda kills it for me. I think I'm gonna wait for some newer variants of the GF104 chip.

I just went from GTX275 to GTX460....my GTX275 was comfortably OC'd to 700mhz GPU (can't remember memory clocks).....this GTX460 beat out my GTX275 in Vantage and 3DMark06 by roughly 1000pts....and by roughly 200pts in Unigine Heaven v2.1....huge improvement to the graphics quality as well.

A GTX 275 to a GTX 460 would be pretty much linear. No real improvements there.

GTX260 owner here. This kind of upgrade is quite tempting indeed... But for a guy like me with limited budget, my answer would be "patience". I already plan on replacing my CPU/Mobo/Ram this Dec anyways. I'll be skipping this GTX400 series and wait til GTX600 or something like that arrives. For sure, the performance gap will be huge.

I think we will see a GTX475(104) and a dual 104 chip GTX495 by the end of the year , if the use the full 104 chip for the dual card it will be a best and hell of a upgrade for all of us GT200 chip owners.

Just did that swap and am very happy with performance. I was mainly looking for cooler temps, but have noticed a good 10+FPS in all games. Just Cause 2 runs very well with the 460, almost a double FPS gain in DX10 mode vs my 260. Temps at idle are 30-32 at load have not seen it above 52. My 260 was idling at 48-52 and at load was 72. Very happy with my small upgrade. I sold my 260 for 150 bucks and paid 240 for my 460. Very happy so far, that and it came with 2 free games(100 dollar value) could not be happier with the purchase.

I think GTX 260 is still a very good performer .. But if u wanna go for dx11 , GTX460 is a very good option ..

From the looks at a few benches and very small improvement of that 460 vs 260, I will also wait till the next gen comes out maybe.

I went SLI instead of jumping at the 400 series. Got a second 260 at a cheap price so it was hard to pass up.

Actually....not linear....lol. 200mhz OC on CPU actually made a difference with the GTX460, whereas it was completely unnoticable with the GTX275.

Went from ~12000 with the GTX275 in 3DMark Vantage to upwards of ~13000 with the GTX460.

this is completly wrong. i went from a 275 to a 460 and there a defo improvment. my OVERCLOCKED 275 scores 14998p in vantanged and my 460 @STOCK scores 16500p, now overclock the 460 to 800/1600/4000 and the vantage score jumps to 18500p. i know its only one benchmark but you cant deny the massive jump in scores. i have the same results in everything else i try, higher scores or more frames.

Except DX11, power consumption and less heat. Perf wise is just moving sideways...

When its heavy oc'd then card made some difference tho

I'll refer you to my previous post as I've actually owned and used both cards.... My GTX275, regardless of clocks, couldn't break 13k in Vantage...whereas my GTX460 did it easily with very little overclock. Also, my framerates in WoW went up, in some cases as much as double. In some areas of the game where I had previously only managed 30-35fps with my GTX275, I was getting 60-70fps with the GTX460 and simply overclocking my Q9550 managed to raise my framerate to around 80fps.

BTW, at stock clocks....GTX275 was getting 12300 in Vantage....GTX460 was getting 12800. Going from 725 to 800mhz on GPU alone got to 13400 for the GTX275 whereas my GTX275 never managed to get above 12700.
