A 990 would be more likely imo, considering the low tdp and all, maxwell is begging for dual pcb action.
GTX 970 die size 398mm^2 R9-290x die size 438mm^2 That is 10 percent for very similar performance. Therefore AMD can go with price down. I wonder which is cheaper: 4GB of vRAM on 512bit interface or double density 4GB vRAM on 256bit interface. Only issue with r9-290x now is power consumption as it may put some people off once compared.
If R390X is true, AMD will announce it at 25 sep, and nvidia could launch something to counter or pull magic drivers
@Rich Guy. I can't find the thread where you stated your mb is only sli compatible with very old cards. I'm pretty sure you can run 970 or 980 sli on your rig. I would ask some x58 owners. Most seem to have newer cards in sli. Was that sli list on your mb manual?
I got it from the specs of it on the Biostar website. http://www.biostar.com.tw/app/en/mb/introduction.php?S_ID=390#ov Seems strange that it wouldn't support other Nvidia cards in SLi, unless SLi has changed, which i wouldn't know about being on AMD 290s are supposed to be dropping again, so i could grab another one and go Xfire. Decisions decisions. EDIT: Then again, i am only at 1080p, and my 290x handles it fine, even @ 144Hz. hmm.
Well only real reason to change from 780, 780ti or titan or 290 / 290x to new 970 or 980 is epeen or for lesser electricity cost
Titan II/990 On The Way, Qtr 4 2014 ? https://translate.google.cz/translate?sl=cs&tl=en&js=y&prev=_t&hl=cs&ie=UTF-8&u=http%3A%2F%2Fpctuning.tyden.cz%2Fcomponent%2Fcontent%2Farticle%2F1-aktualni-zpravy%2F30978-geforce-gtx-990-a-nejspis-i-titan-x-na-ceste&edit-text=
Another Titan. Pay 500 bucks more for a 3 months headstart. That's what it is really. Still, 2880 Maxwell cores is no less than brutal though.
Well you gonna be paying 1000euros for a card like that. Hardly worth it if you're looking for a good bang for your buck kinda deal.
Arguable. I paid $1000 for my GTX690 2 1/2 years ago and people said I was insane at the time, something better would be out the next year. My 690 outperforms my 980 in some titles. To me it was the most cost effective card I ever purchased. I enjoyed incredible performance a year before the 780Ti came out to kinda rival it.
According to a news post on TPU, MSI is holding off on a 980 Lightning in anticipation of a bigger chip. Perhaps we havn't seen the Big Maxwell yet... ?
I'm almost positive that biostar hasn't been going around updating it's web specs for motherboards from 2008. I've never seen ASUS do it.. Also, suspiciously, the cards they claim as supported by SLI are also circa 2008. It looks like marketing. I would hate to lead you astray but I do not feel that the statements in the link provided are entirely accurate, or rather they are accurate, just not definitive. You bring up a good point though about the 290x's, since they don't operate under traditional crossfire/sli.
Its mainly fault of most sites(this one included)every new hardware tested with nvidia never with AMD that should say something) and green fans that keep buying and promoting the more expensive card thats not even most of time or even better(2952x vs titanz)then AMD cards quality wise or only few FPS more on 1080p 780ti vs 290x(which should have been a HUGE win for AMD it performes in many ways better on higher resolutions. First it's mainly the gamers themselfs who keep buying expensive cards ro even lesser card so they can say they have a Nvidia card and join the green club the sheeps they are. Secondly the cards most of time are not realy better but very expensive but the green boys rather spent alot then admid AMD also have fine cards for affordable prices. Have you seen the 980 prices yet they are AGAIN expensive and the 980 is not even a ti card here in holland 630 euros while 290x can run all games on ultra for 450 euros. 970 maybe little cheaper then 290x but thats logic its newer card with lesser specs. I keep buying AMD DRIVERS ARE GOOD CARDS ARE SUPERB FOR LESSER MONEY. Im not THIEF of my own pocket. But keep rpomoting Nvidia as most of you do and this site and AMD eventually lose because of you who are so Nvidia brainwashed. This happens alsmost on whole internet everywhere Nvidia Nvidia while AMD is in reality for the gamers with avordable prices and Nvidia just a money grabbing bastard. Community who buys these cards whould not buy because of hyped on sites and forums or lying benchmarks and cheating reviews they should buy if its good and right price. 980 top pick on this site but it cost 630 euros again way to expensive lol You guys keep saying this and indeed AMD loses i sometimes wonder if AMD users not Nvidia fanbois bah I know i will be burned here for this already see the nvidia boys shouting rabbit amd fanboi but i don't care it's the truth and AMD is losing because of this dumb behavior of consumers. Have nice day nothing personal
I'd get on board with a higher end single card solution if it can outperform or perhaps match SLI 970 tbh. that being said, if 970s perform good in sli without stutter and games work well, I may just stick with them this time around.
So everyone that buys NV cards are sheep? Sorry but you're a blatant fanboy, no offense. Also, dont care about your prices as sales are minor over there compared to NA/UK, the 290x is like $30~ cheaper than a 980. A 970 is $200 cheaper and outperforms the 290x as well
