Well played! You are the husband and father of the year! :) I will have my wife's favorite Thai Rice waiting for her. and my daughter gets a Frozen Book with read along CD lol. I've had to sell some stuff to be able to get a launch card, but I'm sure it was worth it. Over in the GTX 970 owners club someone posted unbox pics. His MSI gpu was very sweet lookin. My nerd meter skyrocketed hahaha. I want to see plenty of that in this thread too!

EVGA SC cards are reported to boost to 1392mhz out of the box with no offset adjustment. This is the stock boost, just to give you guys an idea.:)

It's pretty good, you'll see some significant gains in some games.

3 is really as far as I'd go.

I had 4 way (Titans) briefly but I returned the fourth, as unless you are benching, it's not worth the money.

What is the key to keeping cards with the ref cooler cool?
I know it lets the gpu get to 80 and just basically keeps it there.
Is there anything you can do to keep it below 80 such as manually ramp up the fan like it could with my classifieds?
I dont usually use a ref cooler but the way my classifieds heated up my case, I wanted the outside venting.

Sorry, I've always use open air test beds for my main rig. Just make sure your case is well ventilated. If you want, you can change the TIM on the GPU too. The manufactures tend to put way too much on anyways. I ended up changing the TIM on my 770 Classified and I dropped 4c at full load. So it does help. Also, you can set up fan profiles with MSI AB. Just have it set so your fan spins up to a certain speed once a particualr temp is reached.

I use an Antec Spotfan at the rear of the cards to increase airflow. I place it right near the intakes of the first 2 cards so it is blowing air right into the cards. I've found this can drop temps as much as 10c.

I used to use 2 but I found the 3rd card really doesn't need one since I switched to the Fractal full tower.

Temps rarely go over 70c (and that only happens when using benchmarking software).

Thanks for the info on the stock cooling. I have pretty good airflow coming in across them with my case so i'll just wait and see how it goes.
I have said it before but how bad is a friday launch? Making you wait over the weekend lol

How much better is the 970 vs your 7950 crossfire?
    Right now Im torn if I should get a 2nd 7950, get a single R9 290
or wait till new year and get GTX 970.
