I generally go for the cheaper model, slap an AC Accelero cooler on it and OC it til it cries....

Right now I'm working on a deal to get an MSI GTX970 GAMING G4 just because my eVGA GTX660SC's both throttled with their reference coolers.

Wife wanted me to get rid of some "extra" hardware I had laying around.

    XonarDG
    X-Fi XtremeGamer
    X-Fi Titanium
    SB Recon3D
    Samsung 23" Monitor/TV
    A4 4000
    A4 5300
    MSI FM2-A55M-E33
    Scamsung Galaxy Tab 3 8"
    2x GTX660SC

That's everything I handed over earlier...lol Sadly, I still got some extra parts laying around. The shop will come out ahead, but it's an all or nothing deal. If he refuses to buy anything, it'll all come back home and I'll have to list it on fleabay. They said I should get an answer by closing time tomorrow. If they buy, I should have the 970 either Monday or Tuesday.

I was reading reviews earlier where people claimed to get 250K+ PPD in Folding@Home with a single GTX970, whereas my 7950 only gets 100-110K. If those claims are true, I'll benefit quite a bit from the upgrade....which is important to me. Just too much hassle to keep swapping cards every couple weeks. If everything works out, I might grab a second one for SLI again later.

Very happy about the new card.Dint think my gtx 670 was starting to get so slow.

The temp is great and the fan are so quiet. The performance is very good was playing b4 all setting at ultra with 2xmsaa and mfaa add v-sync and was running smooth as butter at 60 fps without slowdown (single campain)

The upgrade was a very good move people who still use gtx670,680 go ahead do the move wont regret it:banana::banana::banana:

And happy new years to everyone

Agreed, I went from a GTX 680 to GTX 970 and the difference is massive, well worth the money.

Went from GTX680 SLI to GTX970 SLI and also massive difference and can now easily DSR all my games with great fps and enough VRAM.

This is exactly what I did and it's well worth it IMO.

Coming from a 660 ti, I must say the new cards are real beauties.

Check newegg. EVGA GTX 970 SC ACX2.0 has shipped.

5 minutes later the SSC version with 6+2 power phases is available for just $10 more.... oh well it only offers a 30 MHz clock boost compared to the SC.

Most will get you a decent OC. It's when you really want to be in the higher percentile of OC do the higher quality components matter. And you have to ask if $20 to $50 more is worth extra OC headroom.

Good Luck on getting that MSI GTX970 Gaming. Most popular GTX970s appears to be the MSI Gaming and Gigabyte G1.

If we were talking about an additional 20-30% increase, then I'd have no issue with spending a little extra. Since the additional cost isn't going to yield any major benefit, I don't see the point.

The shop I'm dealing with says they can get me one and so far they've never let me down.

Every time a new GPU comes out, MSI and Asus are always sold out...

this was pretty the same across most brands if the gpu is popular and in-demand like the 9xx over the past holiday season.

Tried just now first time DSR @ 4k 144hz Quake live for few min.
FPS is always at max but I have some weird stutter every 2sec.
    Is this normal??
GPU/CPU usage is not at 100% obviously or anything.
Before I could play with custom resolution something like 3200x1800 with no stutter.

Cpu limited at 4k perhaps ? Quake may only use one core which would add to the this problem.

But if my CPU usages are not even close to 100% then it should not be cpu?

if gtx 960s have that tiny ram bus then 8gb versions of 970 /980s are on the way.
    i wouldn't mind paying that lil extra for a 980, i'd prolly choose between vanilla 980 8gb and uber cooled 970 8gb.
anyways 970s are gonna sell like hotcakes now the 960s are here in their nerfed state.
980 /970 prices prolly won't change much either.
